Annoying SOS Malfunction

On my C240, the SOS malfunction shows up every once in a while. I think it has something to do with moisture. It seems to show up after I wash the car, then in 2-3 days, it stops showing up (I'm thinking that it has dried out). Does this match anyone else's symptoms? Does it show up after a heavy rain?

I did NOT renew my teleaid subscription, but if that was the cause of my problems, I would expect the SOS malfunction to be on constantly.

I have 4500 miles till my next service and hope to have determined a pattern by then.

Thanks - John

John, I've never noticed that problem, and I wash my car "all the time". I run a lot of water over the hood and the outside vent, so I'm sure a lot drains through. (BTW, have you noticed that there are 2 drain holes in the cowl area where the water is channeled through -- never saw this on another car.) My 1st year TeleAid service is still active. Good luck.

Here's an "interesting" weather-related problem that we notice w/ my wife's Regal GS: When snow blocks part of the cowl vent, her climate control external readout goes bonkers. It starts rising way past the outside temp, like up to 80 degrees! There must be a design flaw where air doesn't circulate properly to some external sensor when it's partially blocked. They replaced the main control unit once but we still notice the problem.

After having my car only about 10 days, I had a teleaid SOS malfunction. The teleaid operator said it was a software problem and made an appointment that day at the dealer. The dealer updated the software(which was two versions newer than what was installed at the factory) but that didn't clear the problem.
Further diagnostics showed the connectors on the control module were not fully seated, so they popped all connectors off all the components in the fiber loop and reseated them. This took about 3 hours total.

Did you ever have the updated software installed in your car?

Yours is a pretty early car, as I recall. If they haven't installed/run/whatever they do to the new software, you might want to see if they will do it for you.

Yeah, they have 'upgraded' the software and I had them replace something which allowed to have the car unlocked via tele-aid. Early C's didn't come with this feature, but there is a fix if the owner asks for it.

Thanks for the replies - John
