Mskembo's Evolution Of the W203 Thread

I just got my MB C240 a week ago, and have been really enjoying this forum ever since. So, yesterday I made my first modification. I had a Pioneer AVIC Z-120BT installed :)

Here for easy reference, now and in the future, is a picture of my car the day I picked it up.

And here is my new head unit!

Sorry for the crappy pic, I took it last night with my iPhone and the interior lights for illumination.

Mercedes is an addiction with no cure. You can only treat the symptoms with mods and upgrades. Your journey has begun. Now have some fun and keep us updated.

nice mod and nice car! :y
just curious how much was your final cost on getting that head unit up and running?

mskembo 09-11-2010 12:39 PM

Thanks C280, this is actually my second white car ever, and I forgot how much I liked white cars until I saw this one.

97W202, I would love to tell you, but I can not (got a special deal, and I promised the people involved that I wouldn't broadcast it) I will tell you that the AVIC Z-120BT is typically $1200, and in order to keep my steering wheel controls we used the PAC Audio SWI-CAN, and SWI-PS. The total job would typically cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $2000, but I'm a shopper and a half (a lesson learned from my mother, thanks Mom!). Since you are local, we will meet eventually, and I'll tell you more, it's a pretty good story.

I'll try to take another picture later today in the light without Jar-Jar in the scene!

Mike

Thank you sir for the brilliant opening into my statement of intentions!:y

Here is what I would eventually like to accomplish, in no particular order...

Exterior:
Body Kit (Possibly this onehttp://www.bekkers.com/Merchant2/mer...ry_Code=maeroc)
Clear or Bi-Xenon Headlights
Two tone paint job (think Maybach, but this need further consideration)
Wheels, 18" staggered, haven't decided on the style yet, but this will probably be my next mod.

Interior:
Re-Wrap Steering wheel leather
New Floor Mats
Dash light color change (don't know about the feasibility of this, but I really want to:))

Performance:
Exhaust
Intake (probably just K&N filters)
Dyno tune (really just for throttle response)
Swaybars
Suspension upgrades (don't want a drop, but it may require a little one anyway)

So that should take about 25-30 years to accomplish! :rolf:

You can get that body kit with a carbon fiber lip shipped for less from Gary@suvneer. Here is the thread:

https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...-kit-poly.html

PM me if you might be interested in these wheels and tires I just took off my car when I went with C63 wheels.

Thanks for turning me on to Suvneer's body kit. I've PM'd Gary about it. Luckily I have a good body shop, that is very reasonably priced.

Had a lot of rain last week, so I took advantage of the nice sunny day today, and washed my car. She looks Purty!

Just took a road trip this week, what a great car for that type of driving! It really has me re-thinking putting 18" wheels on, and I'm definitely questioning any sort of drop. A really nice surprise was my gas mileage... 29.8mpg! and I was not going slow ;-)

Well whenever you make it down SA way, you can take mine for spin and get and idea of what factory 18's feel like. I can also bolt up the 17" AMG on yours and you can then take that for a spin. That way within a hours time you can know what 16", 17" and 18" do for the ride.

Next time I'm down there I will definitely take you up on that offer! Have you noticed a big change in ride quality?

Between the 16 and 17, the most difference came from what tires I ran. The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S were almost identical ride. When I went to Yokohama S-Drive and the ride was just as nice but quieter.

Going to 18 stiffened up the ride just a tad but not bad. I'm more paranoid of dinging a wheel than anything else. The roads around here are not the best. Between dips and holes, I have to watch everywhere I drive. The biggest difference is the road noise from the factory Continentals. I will go with Yokohama's next change.

Arctic White FTW! The double din is nice, keep the mods coming.

Hey Mike when you're coming down to SA, Hector will have to join us. We can have a MBworld Mini-Meet to talk cars, mods and upgrades.

austinholloman 01-02-2011 05:55 PM

Nice looking ride. Let me know if you want the Email to see if you can get that thing a Eurocharged tune. :y

Hey Mike lets do a mini meet when you pick the tires up!

mskembo 01-04-2011 10:53 AM

Hector, that is a GREAT idea! I just PM'd you about my schedule, but I'm thinking that Saturday the 15th is going to work best. If this works for you and Ward, then I think a mini meet sounds like a great idea.

So a quick update on my latest adventure. Went down to San Antonio to buy some wheels from Hcalvarez on Saturday, and we did a mini meet with Wardsweb... in the rain. Check out Ward's thread about that. Drove back to Dallas the same day, and then had to drive back out to East Texas Sunday night for work.

Well, when I went to leave for lunch today I heard a weird noise, and stopped at the guard shack to check it out. Long story short, shiny metal bits were in my tires, and they were all flat. Seems that a truck had dropped a box of small parts (screws, nails, and metal pieces) and I drove right through them. So the guard called a tow truck for me and I took my car to store that sells tires (supposedly) at a discount. Didn't take any pictures of the damaged tires, but here it is on the lift getting new shoes.

http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/y...o/0b9c261c.jpg

I had been doing quite a bit of research the past month or so, and already knew what tires I wanted. Luckily they had them in stock, so I went with Continental Extreme Contact DWS tires all the way around 225 up front 245 in back

http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/y...o/0ffd64e5.jpg

So far I'm impressed. They are very smooth, and the wet traction seems solid (which is good considering how wet it is right now!

mskembo 01-17-2011 06:03 PM

Please excuse how filthy my car is, It's been raining non stop for days.

LILBENZ230 01-17-2011 08:08 PM

Ahh! DWS! You'll like them! They served me well and I might get them again. At 29,000 miles of usage the backs are still showing that they're okay for snow use. The fronts have shoulder wear, though that's common for the W203.

How many total miles on your 240? I love the clean stock look.
