Licence plate light removal

Can anyone help?
I have purchased a pair of LED licence plate lights, not just the bulbs and need to remove the ones which are on the car at the moment' Has anyone actually manage to take these out?

If you have the US license plate, you have to remove that piece to have a better access from outside.

DYI should be just around the corner. Good luck.

I have done a search ' But can only find the post regarding adding the resistors and not anything regarding removing the entire light.
I have tried it removing the trunk lining and have pressed the clip in on the light but does the light come out through the trunk side or the outside?
Cheers

you have to remove the license plate fixture and they will pop out of the outside.

I recently replaced my license lights with hyper-white (regular, not LED) bulbs from Hoen. They are not cheap. One has gone out on me already after like 5 months. Anyone have this happen to them? Can the light fixture go bad or is it usually the bulb?

Are people going through all of this trouble just to change the bulbs? I hope not...Maybe to replace the whole housing...But I would think that you do not need to remove the whole housing to "upgrade" the lights.

The lens holds the bulb, and is removable by the two stainless short through large course screws. It is PN A203 820 00 66...I know because I replaced both bulbs last night. You use a soft hook tool (Or I am sure a small flat blade screw driver / small hook) and pull off the lens once the screws are out. Once you are holding the lens, you are holding the bulbs, swap and go.

This is the second time I replaced the bulbs, after the first replacement, I added silicone lubricant to the landing area in the trunk lid, this helped removal last night, while adding a tighter water seal than the little gasket on the lens.

Hope this helps.

yes we're replacing the entire fixtures not just the bulbs...i'd hope people could look and see the 2 screws on the lense and automaticlaly assume that you remove those to change the bulbs...

Put back original bulb, works fine(I guess I knew that was the obvious thing to do, don't know why I asked). Now Hoen needs to send me a replacement. Thanks, guys.

Thankfully the license bulbs are easy to replace, as I have found to be generally true about the 203. The dome and trunk took a little more force than I would like but I got them out without breaking anything.
