Reverse lights on while driving C230
Hi I'm new to the forum and I have something that has come up that I can't seem to find on here specific to my situation.
My backup lights are on with the key on, but come off when I put my car in reverse. It's the weirdest thing.
I have a 2005 c230k 6speed manual. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also, I just replaced my front sam unit due to my front driver's side turn signal stuck on. But that fixed it and I didn't notice this new problem for about a week or two after I replaced the front sam.
I have the bulbs taken out for the reverse lights so I can drive it.

The problem is caused by the coding in your front SAM. I had the same issue after I replaced mine. You will need access to a Star diagnostic system to change one of the settings in the front SAM. This thread tells how to make the change.
My theory is that cars with manual transmissions are so rare that the SAMs are set for automatic transmissions.
Good luck.

I've contacted the dealership and explained my problem and they don't seem to think it can be fixed on their end. They just want to replace the SAM again. I called a reputable shop that does a lot of MB work and they said they would give it a shot. unfortunately I won't be able to make it out to their shop for another 2 weeks. Fingers crossed they can get it to play nice.

The dealer's strategy is not likely to cure the problem unless the SAM is defective.
If you are able to show a competent technician the screen shots of the MB Star System from my post, he or she should be able to figure it out.

All depends on what sam you fitted. There are 2 types of manual transmission setups. And the first version there is no option to code it out of the system. Only way is a hardware method. If you have a newer sam then yes coding can be done
