depends on how much they are charging. Usually it is third party sources and becomes an internal fight on whether it is a manufacturer defect or just wear and tear.

My friend's BMW 530 wagon, BMW wanted $3800 which only gave him about 2 years extra. Granted that it costs a lot to repair the car but you have to go through expensive repairs just to break even. In the end he passed on it and a year and a half later looks like he is about $3400 richer.

If you did all the maintenance require and were diligent to go through the car thoroughly while it was under the normal warranty and get whatever needed to replaced, then I would pass

Mike,

Send me your VIN#, I can get you a quote on a very good extended warranty for a reasonable price. I can provide references from people that have purchased and used their warranties here on MBWorld that they got from me.

Email me directly at brucem105@comcast.net.

I was in the same situation as you not too long ago but opted against it. You have a post face-lift model and as a result most of the electrical, mechanical, etc. problems have been sorted out. Some will pop up inevitably but I don't think they'll ever amount to the total cost of an extended warranty.

If you do decide to go the extended warranty route, I know a Mercedes-Benz General Manager that could get you a 3yr/75k mile genuine ELW for less than $3k. That's better than what the majority of dealers/third party companies could offer you but you most likely wouldn't need it. These cars should be going a minimum of 100k miles granted they're well taken care of and driven properly.

As of an hour ago, I've reached well over $2500 in extended warranty coverage all together. I paid about $2200 for it through Nissan dealership where I got my car used and probably broke even with it being included in my financing. But piece of mind + free rentals + car washes....I'm happy.

My car came with an extended warranty when I bought it from a Honda dealership. I used it a couple of times to clear codes and do random check and to get free car washes lol... But I really didnt use it that much since mine was a post face lift and i usually do my own work. If you like the piece of mind that you have it if you need it then I say go for it.

I am in Australia so it may be a different situation. I bought my C200 pre-owned and did opt for a warranty. Granted I got it less than 50% discount so for $1800, it was well worth the 3 years. If anything goes, it should be covered unless wear and tear.

I looked around for a month or two and found that any aftermarket policy I found either had way too many exclusions or got horrible reviews online about denying payment for repairs. I opted to save the money I was going to spend on the policy and take a bit of a chance. either way it's a gamble, big repair without coverage or big coverage with no repair. a bird in the hand...

I got my C230K at CarMax and I opted for the extended warranty. When I bought it, I thought 60 months/60000 miles meant five year or and additional 60K miles, but it apparently means up to 60K miles (it had about 36K when I bought it). The warranty has covered two pretty high dollar repairs so far (air bag harness and A/C compressor replacement). So far, I'm about even on the cost and I have another 10K miles left on the warranty, but as someone has already mentioned, the peace of mind is worth something, too.

Which brings me to a point. I've had this car for less than a year and about 14K miles and I've already had about $2000 of repairs on it. This is not what I expected from Mercedes Benz quality so that is a little distressing, but having the third party warranty has helped a lot. Thankfully, my wife's C230 CPO has had no problems at all.
