BAS - ABS Problems

Hi, I am new to the forum, I have tried to search this topic but had no luck.

I have had my 2003 C230K since February, over the last few days I have been getting some error messeges from the display that say:

BAS - Visit Shop Soon

and

ABS - Visit Shop Soon

Has this happened to anyone? is there anything I should know before dropping it off at the dealer? I have made an appointment for it to be looked at and was wondering if anyone here has been having similar problems?

Thanks in advance, and thanks for the forum.

A common problem on C-classes has been BAS/ESP errors, but your problem sounds different. Since you have BAS and ABS, it definitely sounds brake related. Hopefully the dealer will be able to find the problem.

Is the code always there, or does it go away? If it's always there, then hopefully it will show up in the DAS computer at the dealer and they will know what to fix.

Hmmm

That seems as though what you're describing is a variation on the ESP/BAS error that's happened to many C owners.

If it's similar, a new wiring harness unit update kit may cure the problem, which is the development of high resistance in some sensor wiring connectors. Ask your dealer about it.

I just picked up mine one month ago and I have the same problem. It was supposed to be in for service last Wednesday but I was too ill to take it in! As soon as I find out the problem, I will post my results. Please do the same if you find out anything beforehand.

Yeah I had that also when i first bought the car 2 years ago. Went to the dealer turned the car off and then on and it went away. It never came back. It was checked out and no error codes came up. It could be a sensor assuming u dont have another issue. But with benz it could be a number of issues. Good luck

Hi Tim,

They looked at it today, they ordered the parts needed to fix, it is a pretty minor issue. I was wrong about the error, it's a BAS/ESP error not a BAS/ABS error. I will keep you posted, but after searching for the right thread, I don't want to beat this dead dog to death.

I really don't remember which one mine was since it's been about a week since I've had it, but it sounds just like this! Thanks for letting me know so quickly.

I spoke too soon. As soon as I went out for lunch today, guess what error message showed up? And yes, it was the same as yours.

As noted above, the fix for this is known. Just get it to a dealer and ask them to get on with the service bulletin on this problem. It involves a new wiring harness and new gold connectors. Parts may need to be ordered, depending on the dealer and how many of these they've done.

Ours was throwing intermittent messages for most of the three years we've owned it, but always went away after an engine shutdown and restart. Usually months would pass between messages, but just before a long trip this year, it happened twice within a month - so I had the fix applied, and no problems since.
