Question 722.6 Transmission Rebuild

I am currently shopping for a fair price to perform a “soft rebuild” on my 2003 W203 722.6 transmission. This will also include replacing the torque converter. The soft rebuild includes the following parts;

1. Metal clad front and rear seals
2. Hi-temperature rubber 0-rings and seals
3. Rubber drum seals or bonded rubber clutch pistons
3. Bushings and bearings
4. Clutch plates
5. Bands
6. Modulators
7. Filter/s
8. Upgrade kit
9. Automatic transmission fluid-ATF

Based on pricing so far it looks like it’s going to be near $2200. That figure also incudes a 3-year 36K warranty. Does this seem like a reasonable estimate? In case you’re wondering the clutches for 3rd gear are slipping. I’m getting a RPM flare at that shift point. We tried changing the spring but the problem is still there. The previous owner drove it for many miles with a broken 2-3-shift spring. The car has 161K and looks and runs excellent. It’s my daughter’s car and I want it to be right.

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Just my input, but at that price, I would get a salvage transmission and run that.

Thats a scary number. I love my car, but I fear the high price of major components.

Make sure the shop has done a Mercedes transmission before our cars require special fluid. But Once you do this your car should be great for a lot longer this is one of the only weak points in our cars besides the electrical gremlins.
BTW my 01 c320 is at 171k

I'm afraid to buy a used transmission. I mean I have a used transmission in the car with a problem. I'm afraid I'll buy another problem.

I hear you. I would troll coparts.com and get a used trans off a car with low miles. As long as you don't buy a theft recovery or repo I think you are fine. At least thats my plan.

I'm a member of the 225k mile club. Sheet, I should make a post.

Get a low mileage used transmission for $1000 with a warranty. A half decent rebuild is going to cost you $4000.
