Rain Sensor

Does anybody know if you can install the rain sensor sytem after the car has been driven for some time now?
My friend of mine didn't get the option when she ordedred her car, so do you think she can go back to the dealer and get it installed? even for a more expensive price?

thanks very much

Did she sell Enron stock short?

That would probably require a BUTTLOAD of money. You'd have to probably get a new windshield, a new stalk (maybe) for the turn signal, get the necessary hardware, and have it linked up correctly. It would probably be cheaper to hire an intern to sit on the passenger's seat and turn on the mist when the rain on the windshield gets bad enough.

It's a nice feature, but I really don't think that it would be worth the hassle.

You would have to remove the windshield to install the sensor. It is expensive and once you take a window out it never seems to go back in perfectly, even with new rubber.

I think we already determined that the rain sensor unit is mounted to the windshield as a separate unit. The standard control stalk already has a "standard" delay position, right? I'm not sure it would be as complex as you guys are speculating. It could be a simple matter of running the wire from the sensor to a wiper module which replaces the standard timed mode. Maybe, maybe not. I'll agree that adding on options is sometimes expensive and problematic, but we really don't have the data at this point to know.

From last weekends meet we determined that the rain sensor car and the non sensor car have the same stalk, the same windshield and the same black box behind the mirror. I am not so sure it is that difficult. Might be a matter of getting the module. This would be a good question for MBTech208 or possibly Renncpe can help out.

How do the non-sensor cars control the delay? Other cars that I have owned have had a switch or something on the stalk.

The first position setting on the stalk is intermittent on the non rs cars and turns on the rs on the rs cars.

They are both the same stalk though.

The rain sensor wipers are available as a stand alone option on the C32 for $220. That indicates to me it is a fairly simple add on.
I'd like to find out what it takes to add if after purchase. I wanted it on my car after seeing them in action on my test drive, but bundled the way they are on the C230 Coupe, it wasn't right for me.
