Do you think it's the chain on mine? The sound seems to be round about the middle of the engine, not at the front where the chain is

did he measure the slack on the chain? he should have manually rotated the engine to listen if the valves are hitting
any check engine lights? why did u take the car to him in the first place?

It's done 70k miles and I haven't had the can cover off yet to check the chain. I have no noise of a loose chain on start up only the brrrr sound when acceleration for a split second and when lifting off the accelerator again I get the brrr sound for another split second

Its camshaft adjuster inside the engine. I just took to connection of the solenoid and it doesn't make the noise and when I put it on again it made it.
so its a new camshaft adjuster
so its a new camshaft adjuster

can you please post some pics of where exactly this camshaft adjuster solenoid is located on the engine....I am having the same exact symptoms as you mentioned....."brrrr sound when acceleration for a split second and when lifting off the accelerator again I get the brrr sound for another split second " .... this brrrrr sound is ever so mild ...how much and where did you buy the solenoid from and what is the part number.....I would love to get rid of the annoying brrrr....

What you are describing is one of those things that is really hard to explain to someone and it throws you all over the place. I had this problem where it makes that sound between certain speeds and when you let go of the gas its okay and when you press the gas again it would make that noise, i always felt that it was from the middle to the rear of the engine. Anyhow, check your tanny fluid level. This was the last thing i tried and this was where the problem was. If your tranny fluid is okay and your car shifts alright otherwise then ignore my post. Else you should also read up on glycol contamination in tranny due to bad valeo radiators. Anyhow, for now if that happens between certain speeds or when you car is about to shift then I would first and formost look into the tranny fluid level and report back.

Yep sounds like tranny fluid level. Check it and report back. observe the hot and cold markings if you got the tool. Its best to check it when the car is warm or when the temperature is above 80C on the display, also you always check the tranny fluid level when car running.
Once you report back on the fluid level then we'll know where to go from there.

Here you go
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercedes-Tra...-/121033653752
Or if you got some other dipstick that is flexible and long enough to down the tranny dipstick hose, then i can measure the length from my dipstick and let you know how many CM/Inches you should get at 80C with the car running.
Hope that helps, if you gonna keep the car then its worth spending the money on that thing. My oil sensor gave up on me long time ago, i use the same dipstick for the engine oil level too, i know some of you will say that its not long enough but i got it marked up on the metal part

My car is have the same issue, the brr-brrrr sound in neutral. I am sure this is not the transmission because this sound happens in neutral and when shifting (6spd). I'm pretty familiar with Honda's and this is my first Benz (02 C230). How tough is it to replace the cam adjuster?? Anyone ever resolve this?\
Thanks
