What's this worth?

How much is a 06' C230 Sport that is in MINT condition worth with a DEAD tranny? Just trying to figure out what I should do with the car... should I pay dealer 5K to fix it or sell it as is to someone looking for a perfect engine/body/paint with a dead tranny.

Have you checked with an independent MB service shop on the cost to repair/replace the tranny?

I am planning to get a quote from a private indy shop later today. Will report back what they recommend. thanks.

The car will be relatively worthless with a dead transmission. Are you absolutely sure that the transmission is dead? Not that it needs a TC replacement or a new valve body or conductor plate, all a lot less than $5000, but that it is completely dead? Total failure of the 7G is rare from my experience on the board.

What are the symptoms exactly?

I shouldn't say DEAD... its technically in limp mode and won't shift out of 1st gear. MB tells me it has multiple fault codes (i do not have fault IDs). They also opened the trans to check for problems and recommended I get the following parts, here are the major ones...
I only have what the descriptions from their parts quote.
140-270-11-61-28 SSION ($299)
000-140-51-85 PUMP ($770)
002-542-26-19 RELAY ($33)
272-051-01-77 AGNET ($35)
272-140-24-01 MANIF ($1125)

+ 18 hours x $128/hr = HOLY *****

buy a used tranny from a wreckers or insurance write off

To save money, you can shop for those parts on various online MB parts stores & have a MB independent mechanic install them. There are a lot of other issues on your car other than the tranny. The DIYs posted in this forum are very helpful, if you're mechanically-inclined, etc. Good luck.

LilBenz is right. I haven't read of 7G failures. Once the indy gets you a qoute, come on back and elaborate on what they advised.

I would find a wrecker with a low mileage tranny. Have it delivered to your indy and let them do the work. The car is worthless without a working trans.

You might spend 3-4k in fixing it, but the value of the car will jump by double at least.

Okay 140-270-11-61-28 - isn't this related to the common failure of the conductor plate? Can someone confirm? From what I can tell it is a speed sensor on that board.

000-140-51-85 is the secondary air injection pump. This shouldn't have anything to do with the transmission. It is another rare failure, I'd get a second and possibly a third opinion.

272-051-01-77 - cam adjuster magnet, also not related to the transmission but a common failure.

272-140-24-01 - this is the intake manifold, I wouldn't call this a common failure but I have seen it happen.

With all these different issues, has the CEL been on for a while and you ignored it? Because the likelihood of all this happening at one time is slim. In any event, the labor rate is huge.. you can definitely come out better with an indy.

Yup. Those parts can be had for at least 50% cheaper online.

Also, either the dealer is trying to rip you off or then you actually have a bunch of issues with your car but your transmission doesn't need a rebuild.

alot of different factors....miles are a good start to post up if its even worth fixing.
