Tow rating for 03 c240

Hi, I'm new here. I've been doing some searching on this site and elsewhere and cannot find the info I'm looking for. I would like to know how much weight our 2003 c240 sedan is rated to tow. I am aware that many people think towing with a Mercedes is a silly idea, but I also see that non-North Americans seem much less precious about the functionality of Mercedes cars and do use them to tow trailers. Can my car tow a small trailer, and what is its rated capacity? I can't seem to find any reference to towing in the owners manual.

Thanks in advance.
Todd

almost everyone in Europe tows something and the C class in many countries come with an integrated hitch that is built in to the bumper and flips down or as an option. check the european parts pages and you will see that, unfortunately the ball is a different standard there and does not work with any or our trailers

I have a hitch on my C class and tow my catamaran or laser and sometimes a utility trailer moving items. My Cat is about 350lbs and the trailer is about another 300lbs. I am sure I've had over a 1000 including the utility trailer. I've had it on the car since 2006 and no issues. The other bonus is that with the hitch it makes it really easy to have a bike rack attachment and use that all the time

You can only get a class 1 hitch on the car and that capacity is 2000lbs. I probably would not pull that much weight but key things to remember about towing is that your auto trans will take the most of the punishment thus you need a transmission cooler (mine is a stick so I don't have to worry about that) and brakes take a bit of abuse as it is stopping a heavier load.

Not sure why MB Can or US are so protective about saying that towing is not recommended or allowed when they all do it in Europe (go to the UK or NL and everyone is towing a caravan)
