2001 C240 About to change oil :/

2001 c240. How is it goin everyone. Soo I have read thread after thread about changing the oil on this car. I just got it 3 months ago and am doing my first change today here at work when I get off. I work at a shop. I just bought 10-30w that should be fine as long as I do my changes every 4,000 miles correct??? and also what do you guys think about royal purple?? I would be willing to spend the money if it really made a difference.

wrong weight and probably wrong oil. Royal Purple has been discussed 500,000 times. Why are you trying to reinvent the wheel, go with what is approved and recommended MB229.5. Oils approved are compatible with the components and materials of the engine, they prevent engine oil sludging, sulfated ash has to be within 0.8 and 1.5 and a known entity in the FSS.

If you want to save a couple of dollars a litre of oil at the expense of your engine then go ahead. Would you want to receive type B blood if you are A- ?

approved oils http://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevoli...nt_action=show

I don't see any 10w30 or Royal Purple on that list

EXACTLY it has been discussed 500,000 times and every time people are back and forth about it, I was in search of a personal experience with it. not oooh well its not approved and it says not to use it. nitrous also isn't approved and does wonders in my race car.......

anything is possible and can be used in a car that in not approved including nitrous, will you get 100,000mi out of a car using nitrous? - probably not. A race car is not a road car and can not compare the two

I am not going to second guess the engineers in Stuttgart ...lets put it another way, if you just bought new a C63 for $70K are you going to put in an oil that is not approved or recommended, and go with the snake oil claims that Royal Purple spews?

Mobil 1 is an excellent oil is there a need to go elsewhere? If you don't like Exxon products, Shell makes also an excellent oil 'Ultra' and it is sold under the Pennzoil banner by the same name in the US

I think your engine takes 229.3 approved synthetic oils as you have the M112 motor but check your owners manual. Those oils are readily available at all major retailers. I'm no chemist or engineer so I can't explain why that particular oil is needed however you'll want to do what benefits your car the most. That and a fleece filter (Mann is easy to find) and you'll be good to go. The weights will either be 0W40, 5W30 or 5W40.

Nitrous does wonders for the performance of a race car, not prolong it's engine life so that comparison is irrelevant.

The Mobil 1 Synthetic 0W40 is a fine oil, approved for use in your car, and can run in regular service intervals of 13,000 miles between oil changes.
