okay, how do I install this stupid thing

Stupid driver side button snapped off, the hole where it fits is broken so I think I have to get this whole thing. Can this be installed w/o taking off the door panel?

Requires removing the door panel. Unfortunately.

Okay, assuming I can figure out how to remove the door panel, is it completely obvious how to remove/replace the new window switch or is there another step(s)?

Yes, it's fairly simple. Once you remove the panel (piece of sh*t [just did mine Monday]), you can keep the rod attached to the door handle (though it's easier to remove, if you don't, that's one less thing you'll have to do to get the panel back on). Look at the back of the switchplate - there's a little lever that you can slide up - once you do that, you can pull the switchplate off the trim piece (from behind) - if you look at your link, you can see all three rows of plastic tabs - one black at the bottom, and two of that off white gizz color. Those will align with the slots in the trim piece when you slide the lever on the back of the switch row.

Then do the opposite to install, make sure it's secure, then try to reinstall the door panel without breaking any of the pressure pins all around the panel, messing up a wire, or puncturing your leather. Don't forget to line up your door lock pin before you secure everything back. Now would be a good time to replace those damn golf tees, too.

A lot of writing here, but removal should take 20-30 secs top - it's just a little hard to describe.
