I have a 2003 C240 with one of these stereos and a 5 or 6 CD changer in the glove box.

Now I have read that the aux in mod relies on the tape deck? which is the part I dont know. Do certain cars come with a tape deck and others with a CD changer?

Yes this is the radio that you have to do the tape deck aux in.
In the usa MY2004.5-2007 they had built in cd changers and you could add an aux in with a wire from the mb dealership.

The part I dont understand is where is the tape deck (unless tape deck refers to the stereo itself). I dont think I have a tape deck to play tapes and I remember reading over the install instructions saying that one must put in a tape.

They're referring to the radio itself. The tape deck should be right behind the screen. There should be an eject button near the bottom left of the screen.
