Idler pully

I have a 2006 c230 sport v6 with auto transmission. Today I noticed a slight growl coming from the engine when walking around the front of my car. The car was warm and I mean it was extremely faint growling noise. Anyways... I popped the hood and noticed the noise seemed like it was coming from the top pulley (assuming the idle pulley) and that the pulley had a slight wobble to it but nothing too too terrible. The belt isnt squealing or isnt torn up, and the car is running just fine, but Im assuming this is not normal? Just want to get your thoughts before i go to the stealership and they try to sell me something I do not need.

Thanks!

If the belt is more than 3 yrs old, you are on borrowed time. Noise is a problem in any bearing. The idler from the OE maker is cheap as is the tensioner assembly compared to the dealer prices.

If near 100K miles, consider changing all three. You don't want to see any wobbling.

They are easy to change, and even if you need to buy the wrenches, the whole job will be less than $200.

If you hear a noise coming from the belt drive system, then you are on borrowed time. The drive belt system parts are wear and tear parts and they need to be replaced after certain millage. You should be able to physically inspect the parts to see if they need to be replaced.

Here is a link to our site for the belt drive system:
