Transmission failed... need a replacement, i think
My car is:
(S203) W203 C270 CDI Kombi (st. car) from 2002 and i have a 722.640 transmission. Km 475,000
My car is ill and can't find out whats wrong with...
It started to go in "limbo mode" (stuck in 2 gear) and i didn't know much about it, so i shut down the engine and it was working well again.
After a week time with this issue it won't reset now when i switch off like before...
So i found this video on youtube (
It was easy because the video was very good...
After i changed the conducter plate the wheels won't turn or rather the transmission wont connect...
So i have asked around and every mech (even MB mech) said you don't have to reprogam the gears into the new conducter plate because it was located some where else... its only the newer conducter plate that needs to be reprogramed by MB...
My Transmission is a 722.640 and they don't need to be reprogrammed...
I was told maybe the new conducter plate was defect, so i replaced it with a new one.. still the same.
After 1 week of struggle then i gave my car to MB in Denmark (Amager)... they billed me 350 Euro and said they couldn't find the error... they said they have to split it up and check for the error, which means alot of €€€ wasted.
I am almost certain its a Electeric problem cause my transmission has been really pleasant to drive with and there was no issues before...
So i decided to replace the transmission and have been checking ebay for it... i found a transmission called 722.6160.

Will this fit my car ?
And if someone has a solution for my issue please advise me...
Thank you all...
Does the gear number show up on display when you start up the car? Does S/W switch change on the display? Can you get the gear back to park after putting it to D,R or N?
If these symptons fit it, then you need a new shifter assembly(the one in cabin), not a new gearbox. I had the same problem a few weeks ago. Though I'm not sure what are the problems with your conductor plate

Make sure that no fluid has wicked up the harness from the electrohydraulic bush to the TCU under the passenger kick plate.
I don't recall the error codes from STAR... however let me check tomorrow if the letters appears on the display.
But don't u think MB would have told me if it was the Shifter assembly ?
@Neurodave
I think you are thinking to remove the warning light from the dashboard after one has changed it...
I never had any warning lights in the dashboard even before it went to limbo mode

it's fried the TCU under the right side passenger compartment floorboard.
Doubtful it was conductor plate at all.
Lots of posts on that. If I'm right, you'll need a new TCU and new orings
for the connector where the harness attaches to the tranny.
I replace them every time I flush the trans.
You might be able to get away with just cleaning everything.

Also known as a Pilot bushing in Mercedes parlance, though it's not a bushing
not related to anything vaguely related to a pilot bearing or anything.
It what they call it.
Here's one of many video's on the subject since they don't sell the o rings by themselves.
Check around the 3 minute point.
Pilot Bushing
TCU coated with fluid...
Ewwwww! Yucky!
