Exclamation Is this true?

I called the dealership and asked if I can do a 5000 miles change oil instead of 10000. The service adviser said that its not advisable cause the computer that comtrols the maintenance schedule will malfunction or something. Anyways I just want to know if I can do this or not?

Not true.

They just need to plug their handheld computer in to reset the FSS. I mean, if say you miss the first service date by say, 500 miles and then service it exactly 10,000miles after that, then your FSS would always be off. That wouldn't be very smart.

You can certainly change the oil at 5,000 mile intervals, just don't have the FSS system reset and then at around 10,000-13,000 miles it will still pop up for the next oil change.

Changing the oil will not cause the computer to malfunction. The oil will appear cleaner longer, that's all.

FSS is reset through the "Reset" button on the dashboard, not through the SDS Laptop computer. See you manual for details.

According to the MBUSA website only V6 and V8 cars have the advanced FSS that measures oil quality and adjusts the maintenance schedule if you add oil in between services. My impression is that if you have a C320 and change the oil every 3k miles the FSS will never show that a service is required and you never get your 4 free years. The C230 will only calculate the FSS maintenance schedule based on your driving and should not be reset so that you can get your free oil change.
