They just need to plug their handheld computer in to reset the FSS. I mean, if say you miss the first service date by say, 500 miles and then service it exactly 10,000miles after that, then your FSS would always be off. That wouldn't be very smart.
Changing the oil will not cause the computer to malfunction. The oil will appear cleaner longer, that's all.

FSS is reset through the "Reset" button on the dashboard, not through the SDS Laptop computer. See you manual for details.
