C Coupe 2.3 Life Expectancy ???

Folks - how many miles do you think the C Coupe (2.3L) will log before a major engine overhaul is needed? (bonus question: how many miles before a minor overhaul is needed?) Provided that we follow MB maint schedule decently even after the "free" period is over.

My take - 80K before new blower is needed. 150K before new engine.

Your take ?

I don' t know about the S/C Models but I have seen people log around 200k before a major engine overhaul. It all depends on how you drive also. I have 485,000 miles on my 93 Toyota Camry

20,000km and a new supercharger was required on mine.

For the most part, I believe MB's engines will last. It's mostly their interior/computer parts that are QC issues, not so much as mechanical from posts all around. I've seen lots of new MB's (2000+) go over 100k without problems.

longevity

I would guess that if you're not a brain-dead headbanger with zero mechanical sympathy that you'd be able to top 400,000 km (250,000 miles) easily.

My 1989 Peugeot 405 has 312,000 km and rising, and has had neither a minor nor a major overhaul, it's on the original clutch, no drivetrain work at all, That's 200,000 miles more or less and it's probably good till 400,000 km. Those are all hard miles, very few on the highway, tens of thousands of cold starts....not like a more modern car with twice the mileage.

The majority of wear in an engine occurs when the engine is cold and warming up. Cars that achieve surreal mileages in a short time are no surprise - they have far fewer cold starts, which extends the engine's life hugely.

According to many M-B mechanics the M111 engine was the most reliable in Mercedes' fleet.

Modify the engine and all bets are off.

I don't know how long the service intervals are in the US, but here, they keep increasing it to keep the ownership costs down...

New C-Classes (along with other euro makes) have service intervals every 20,000km, and IMO that is just too long... especially with forced induction... it doesn't matter if it's turbo or s/c, it will still require fresh oil if you want it to last.

IMO if you want your turbo or s/c to last, you'll need to have an oil change at least every 5,000Km

I don't think the new generation of C's will last as long as the old ones... but I'd still say they're going to last much longer than a lot of other cars...

Just my 2 cents...
