W203 SRS module not accessible

Hi,
I couldn't access the SRS module anymore. I was able to access it and reset the error code etc. It happened after I removed the SRS ECU from the car (and drives it for a few trips) when I was trying to fix the slip ring problem on the car. After a few days, I mounted back and also replaced the slip ring.

The module seems working all okay, since it detects the safety belt connector and occupancy of the seats. Everything seems working except the annoying SRS error message pop up every time.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

My car info: W203, C180K 2004, SRS module:Bosch 0 285 001 373
SRS diagnostic tool: Autel AL 619, and also DELPHI Scan tool.

Now you are screwed--you need factory(DAS Xentry or Vediamo) software to remove the fault!!

not all aftermarket tools don't work on srs

Youhua 07-19-2016 05:50 AM

Since I don't have Star diagnostic, I have contacted a workshop to do that, hope they don't place a crazy bill for that type of work. Thanks for your answer.

specialist work comes at a price!

Hi, Russell, do you know if it's just a reset work or re-programing the SRS ECU?

Russell Ormerod 07-20-2016 02:02 PM

Hi. it depends if the fault is current or stored. stored faults you can just reset. current faults need to be repaired first. did I read your first post correctly that u did in fact have communication with your diagnostic tool before you removed the srs module?

Youhua 07-20-2016 02:09 PM

Yes, I did have communication to the SRS module before I removed it from the car. I saw some posts mentioned the SRS ECU can also be deactivated, I'm a bit worry about that situation, then re-programming the ECU might be costly.

Russell Ormerod 07-20-2016 02:12 PM

there is usually a ground wire that bolts down with the srs unit. did u fit that wire back?

Youhua 07-20-2016 02:23 PM

Yes, I have it connected. As I said earlier in the post, the unit seems working fine: seat occupancy detect ok, safety belt locked check ok as well. So I'm not sure it could be the gateway failure (this is just a friend's guess, I don't even know I have a gateway on this car or not).

Russell Ormerod 07-20-2016 02:37 PM

nah. won't be a gateway issue. did u try disconnecting the battery for a min. another possibility is a damaged or bent pin when u plugged it back in. it happens easily. the fact that you had comms before means you should have comms now. so if u can't get comms most likely star won't either. do other systems have faults relating to srs module?

Youhua 07-20-2016 03:17 PM

Hi, Russell thanks for your answer, I have tried disconnect the battery for a couple of hours, no difference. I'd also disconnect the main connector on the SRS ECU and reconnect again a few times, and problem still exists, didn't see any bending pins either. Other systems are all good.

fuse 45 and 49 OK? in front fuse box!

Youhua 07-21-2016 12:53 PM

Hi, Russel. Sorry for the late reply. I've checked the fuses you've mentioned, they are all good. And also checked the connector for the SRS ECU, and they are good as well. Any further suggestion?

Russell Ormerod 07-21-2016 01:33 PM

I would say the next step is to get it on Star Diagnose. see if u get comms!

Youhua 07-27-2016 02:58 PM

Got diagnostic report from workshop and they say the only communication they have is to the Engine ECU, and ABS unit, they couldn't find the rest of the nodes. After a bit of search I suspect the ignition switch I had changed earlier has failed as a gateway of forwarding CAN BUS B and C communications. Do you any other suggestions?
