Question about w203 steering wheels

I was wondering if a 2000 S class steering wheel would fit my 2003 w203...I know the airbag size is different but I wasn't quite sure. I am asking because I plan on get a wood steeing wheel for my car. Anybody know how I should go about this ??? Thanks

All steering wheels are interchangeable. Check the back of your air bag and see how many pin connector it has. If it has a 3 pin you are ok. If it is 4 pin, you have to stick with what you have.

I'm on MB Klasse too, but couldn't find the instructions. I'm going to change my steering wheel next week.

The W203 is available with 2 different connectors for the multifunctional part of the airbag...some 203s use a 3pin connector and some 203s use a 4pin connector for the MF part...almost all (if not all) other MBs use a 3pin connector...meaning that if your W203 has a 4pin connector for the airbag part - it will be hard to get a compatible MF airbag out of another MB model.

Steve,
When you are talking about this
2 different connectors for the multifunctional part of the airbag...some 203s use a 3pin connector and some 203s use a 4pin connector for the MF part..
you confuse me, and I have had my steering wheel off.
In my photos, there is a green connector, a yellow connector, and a black connector.

Which one are you talking about?

My W203 2003 Coupe had three wires out of the black connector, a white, red and black. Looks like the connector could hold another wire. Is this the magic plug that determines which steering wheel can be adapted?

The other connectors have only two wires, a purple and green wires to the yellow connector and blue and yellow wires goes to the green connector.

I really wanted one of your wheels from the W209/R230 wood/leather steering wheel. I held off just because no one could tell me if my connector was a three or 4 pin connector

AMG medical car steering wheel is another one Steve can supply.

Markie, look at http://groups.msn.com/mbenznl/instal...s.msnw?Page=11
Steve has several steering wheels that will fit.

If Steve had a faster, easier to use web sie he could not keep up with the demand

Steve is talking about the black connector that has 3 or 4 pins in it. The green and yellow are standard Airbag connectors.

markie mark 240,
I could not post the photo I wanted, got the dreaded 1 byte message. Moderators, what is up?

Go to http://www.mbklasse.com/forums/showt...&threadid=5489 for a photo of the connectors in question. It only takes a minute to find out what you have.

I was talking about the black connector indeed...a faster website to increase the demand sounds good...and will be worked on once I get the time to do so...

4pin airbag connector as to be found in some 203s

3pin airbag connector that is used in almost all MB models (including some 203s).

Faster is only part of the web site equation. You have to scroll through dozens of pages in each book to find your model.

Your own URL, such as EuroPimp.com would be a start, then about 50 MB for photos.

Then easy to navigate sections for each Mercedes car modle that you have parts for.

Right now most people go t your personal web site, and while cool (bundji jumping) it doesn't have your photos of installs. I go to look at the E 55 installs to drool.

For those who haven't been toSteve's site with the photo albumns of installs and parts, go soon and go often:

I dont know who has full wood (not the inlay stuff) steering wheels for sale for W203 other than www.performanceproducts.com

Steve, do you carry the full wood (grip area) steering wheel for W203? If so, is it a perfect match Laural wood for W203 interior. And also, how much?

which one

Which one did you order? 3 spoke or 4? Also, what color leather did you get with it? Would like to see some pics of it when you get it. I've been thinking of getting one myself, but not sure which one to get.

MM240, will the "free" shift knob fit a W203 C class? I had thought that the shift knobs they had available did not fit the C class, but they do have a very nice solid wood knob in the catalog....is your steering wheel full wood or the inlay wood (small strip of wood around inside of wheel)?

That is the one thing I dont like about PP - the catalog items are often not on the website.

Good luck and post pics after install.....

Order came in today from performance products and the shift knob was different then the one I ordered, but I plan on keeping it because I think it looks better then the one I wanted. The steering wheel they sent me was the wrong one, so I gave them a call today and they said to ship back the steering wheel and they'll send me another. I'll post pics of the shift knob install as soon as I can.

also tell us how you installed the shifter and steering wheel when done.

PP has great stuff, but the staff there seems to suck....I have had three orders with them, one was very late due to backorder they never told me about, the second was the wrong product and did not fit, and the third I am still waiting for since November....backorder again!....but great stuff....

Looking forward to the pics MM240

The shift knob from Formy mercedes is the same ones from Performance Products. The manufacturer is Schaft from Germany, the spelling might be bad.

I have used both places. I always drive to Performance, that way I am sure I get the right stuff.

Also you can check your orders from Performance Products online!!!!

shifter install

The shifter was quite easy to install, although I don't have any pictures up I plan on putting some up later when I get back I am leaving town today. Once you remove the leather wrapping around the shifter pull it all the way up until you see a small black piece right under the shifter (under the leather ofcourse) and turn that once it is turned the shifter is unlocked, so just pull up and it will come off, they come off fairly easy so don't strain yourself too much. Alright guys, talk to you all when I get back. Take Care and Thank you very much for all of your generosity and help!
