2000 clk 430 amg
clk 430 intermitten key cranking over

I have 2 keys, sometimes I have to turn the key around, or change out key, turn the second key over and even shift into neutral before it will start. I just had a reputable mercedes shop install a new shifter assembly and now i am having this problem.

does it crank and not start or just not crank?

does the tach needle jump when it finally decides to start?

it turns over but wont crank. This problems has been intermittent for the past 3 weeks. Here is the interesting part- If you let it set for awhile it would crank, but not any more. - if you let go of the key the car will continue turning/spin over. you have to turn the key back to off position. It has fire to the plugs and fuel.
I checked fuses. Is there a start relay?

It's sounding like a crankshaft position sensor issue.

W140 1993 300sel
Hey, was reading across this thread. I have a 1993 300sel w140 m104.990. My car is also not starting. It is cranking but not starting, plus the tach needle is also jumping like you mentioned. What could be the possible problem?

I got your email but you dont allow email responses here on the forum. There are quite a few things to check (try starting fluid, see if it has spark at a plug wire etc.) but the needle bouncing usually means that the crank position sensor is working but there may be interference in the signal somewhere (perhaps your gauge cluster)
