Rear brake shield discs corroded, help to replace them !?

Hi Guys

My wife’s C180 has the dreaded corroded rear brake disc shields that are now rubbing against the disc as the brake shoes are not being held properly. I would like to avoid having to remove the hub to replace the shields as the car is not worth much and on its last few years. I have read that you can cut the old discs off and then make a small cut in the new one to get them over the hub, can anyone provide some DIY details?
Thanks
