Expensive gas...play the Range game!

With the price of gas being so expensive, I find I'm using the trip computer more and more. After filling up, and cruising for a while, I managed to get the range to read over 490 miles (790 km). What is the longest range you've been able to get? It varies quite a bit, but I'm trying to break the 500 mile barrier! This is based on the inefficient 2.6L engine...maybe the 230K will get better range given the fuel tank is the same capacity.

They question is how many miles have you driven past when it says zero miles left? I did about 10 miles afterwards and put in 15.8 gallons in the tank....

Now that's just flirting with danger MB-BOB likes to push it to the limit but he keeps spare gas in the trunk!

Average is around 350

Of course my commute is mixed. Trip computer says 25.2 MPG. Of course, I drive like a maniac. Filled up today $36......I hope gas goes up to $3.50/gallon. I want to see all the SUVs parked permanently...

I don't want to see them parked permanently, however, I would like to see them cease with drivin like race-car drivers on the freeway.

It is an interesting feeling to know someone driving a Ford Excursion wishes to race you on the freeway

Have they any idea as to how much fuel they are wasting?

Now that premium has hit $2.50 in LA, I am leaving for work earlier and setting the cruise control at 70, so instead of getting 24 MPG I am getting 30.

Still hard not to blow by the "undocumented workers" driving 54 in the fast lane, on bald tires with a gross polluter and no car insurance. Renewing my car insurance, galls me I have to pay for uninsured motorists liability, when it is the law to have insurance.

Do people in other states have to pay for uninsured motorists liability?

I've also been setting the cruise at 68 instead of 75 to save gas, and keeping the rpm below 2500 while accelerating. I've been getting 30 mpg in my Intrepid, which isn't bad at all. I like the new Ford Escape Hybrid that's coming out, those should sell like mad if gas prices stay high. An SUV with great gas mileage sounds like a winner.

Unfortunately, its optional in Pennsylvania
Uninsured Motorist (UM) coverage protects YOU and YOUR family against irresponsible drivers and it is CHEAP. If you live in an urban area or where there are alot of uninsured driver's, you are CRAZY not to have UM insurance.

Unfortunately, yes (Florida).

There are many non-English-Speaking people and Seniors driving without the proper insurance, and in some cases, without a valid license.

The insurance companies are greedy w ***** and will do anything they can to charge you more for your insurance.

I called up AllState for a quote, and they wanted my social security number so they could run a credit check!!

the insurance companies somehow think someone with good credit is less likely to have claims versus someone with bad credit.

talk about stupid...

From what I understand, that is a new thing. They (Insurance Companies) will now factor in your Credit in order to issue insurance on vehicles!
Go figure!

And one of their tricks is to say that they cannot find any credit history older than 10 - 15 years and therefore charge you more. That is til you remind them that credit bureaus only keep a history of the last 10 years and that per federal law that is enough. If you don't call them on it they will get away with it.

Pretty good for a big Yank Tank with cop package!

My Peugeot 405 averages 31 MPG US from tank to tank but I drive it relatively hard, and it has virtually 200,000 miles on it (317,000 km). I consider it to be a gas guzzler, which is why I'm getting another car for those days where I don't ride the bicycle to work.

Not one of the hybrids, which usually fail to deliver on the EPA mileage in the real world, but a smart fortwo cabriolet cdi.

The highway fuel economy rating is 76 MPG US (3.1 L/100 km).
The city fuel economy rating is 60 MPG US (3.9 L/100 km).

Several smart cdi drivers in Germany report achieving 2.7 L/100 km driven at about 62 MPH on the Autobahn - that's 87 MPG US.

Its amazing how much better mileage you can get if you try and keep your foot out of the boost.

I drive mostly in the city, and my daily commute has two routes, one is a suburban stop and go, the other is the freeway. I can get over thirty on the stop and go route, by doing some easy take offs and using the cruise between lights. Computer projects the range at 460miles at current low consumption...hey, that's great for non highway driving.

Of course they don't appreciate the absence of a speed limit in Germany... What a waste!!! Last time I drove there I had the gas pedal pressed to the floor in 5th gear... It was a beautiful Alfa Romeo 156, diesel, 85hp, that would not go over 185 km/h (in the right lane - the slowest, of course!). I still managed to overtake a few old geezers, though
