If its driving you crazy, you can bring it in for service and have them change the setting...

flashman's faq has more info.

note that if you have the bose audio-pilot, your volume will still change after the speed sensitive volume is turned to 0dBs. but i find it acceptable as it is less jarring (do i have a choice? )

I hate it. I hate it with a passion!!! The interior of my Mercedes is quiet enough. I don't need a stereo that adjusts itself to how fast I'm driving and to have one that doesn't come equipped with an on/off button to make it stop is a disservice. Does anybody LIKE this feature?

I may be one the few with the Bose option that have the autopilot feature off as delivered, and the speed-sensitive part of it it quite acceptable, meaning I can barely hear it and it seems right.

As for the circuit that adjusts the volume based on the ambient noise, I have conducted numerous experiments and am 100% certain it's non-funtional. Open/closed windows/sunroof, passing by a roaring diesel truck - have had no effect on the volume.

Based on this, I assume this feature *can* be disabled, just ask your dealer to take their time and figure out how. A tech servicing my coupe honestly admitted that these things are so complex that they simply can't keep track of all models and changes introduced each year. For one, he didn't know anything about the fuel settings.

Too bad MB has decided to deprive us of the ability to control this feature - a loaner Focus had it right there, on the front panel of the head unit!

Hey Toki I noticed that you had CD-changer coming soon...how are you going to get it? If you need help let me know...(I live in Tujunga).

The dealer (penske) had someone come to my place and install it for 550 dollars (labor included)

I still have the name and number of the person who installed it if you want it.

I like the AudioPilot option too. Normally I listen to music in high volume ( well, who doesn't?) but when I am at a stop light, I don't want the next car (or cops!) to look at me like I am an .....

The AudioPilot does a good job esp when the sun roof and the windows are open.
