CL203 (I think!) question

Hello all,

New to this Mercedes life having purchased a 2004 C200 Kompressor Coupe but I have a few questions about it that I'm sure the guru's can answer by sight!

It was listed as an AMG - I am assuming that this is just a reference to AMG alloys / styling? And the front offside bumper has a crack going all the way through and the fog surround has been lost, hence the question, as I don't know what I need to replace the surround. Is it a normal bumper or an AMG one?

Didn't notice the crack when I bid but it wouldn't have put me off if I had as this seems to be a great little motor!

Also, can anyone recommend where spare keys can be made up? It only came with one and the case is a bit shabby.

Thanks for any help in advance. Would like to get these little niggles resolved before putting it to proper use!

It looks like a regular bumper to me. But if that were mine, I’d just pull the cover and repair it. Fiberglass and fill, repaint.

You’d likely be painting anyway. That looks like a nice bumper minus the crack.

Most people get new keys through the dealer. There are alternatives but they’re a PITA to execute. $250 when I last ordered one.

That’s a good looking, well-dressed coupe, btw.

😊

I think it’s some kind of ‘sports’ bumper. All of the ones I’ve seen online have a different design around the fog lights. Example shown below

whereas mine goes the other way.

The whole cover is missing and it’s proving difficult to find a replacement.

Thanks. I’m really pleased with the car so far!

The original post (your car) shows a 2004 vehicle with the AMG package. It's mostly cosmetic, with the AMG bumpers and stiffer sway bars and maybe some other trim pieces. I'm not sure those wheels are original for the car (they were for the W209 CLK).

There was a V6 C32 coupe (extremely rare) for that generation, which your vehicle is not.

You'll need a screen mesh and a AMG fog light. These are different from the non AMG ones (different mounting points), so make sure you buy the correct one. With that said, it sounds fishy that it's missing. Your car was probably involved in a minor front end collision if your bumper cover is also cracked.

Your 2nd photo shows a facelifted (2005-2007) non AMG model. That is definitely not the AMG bumper. The AMG bumper I think was unchanged between pre-facelift (2001-2004) and facelift.

Post a shot of the front of your car and the difference will be obvious.

Yes, thanks - that's what I'm trying to establish for my Google searching!

Fortunately the fog light is there (and works) so it's an "AMG mesh" cover that I need. Had a quick delve and I can see why the seller didn't declare it was missing as the cheapest I can see so far is over £100!!!
