I heard on tv that chinese people were very superstitious. mercedes used to build a 400 series E class but they couldn't sell the car well in HK because the number 4 sounded like "death" in cantonese. Alfa Romeo got it worse. their car was called the 164 and in cantonese that sounded like "death all the way."

You got it! They don't sell any MBZ with the 4300cc engine in Hong Kong. No one will ever buy them. They would rather go for a 280 (which by the way sounds like easy to get rich in Cantonese) instead of a 320 or 500 if they could actually find one.

i don't know. i'm not chinese but i wouldn't want to buy the death model mercedes either if mercedes had named it like that in english.
