Yes it does. Someone in the E forum has a new E with nano paint and an older C 202 model. He has had the E for nearly 10 months and no scratches on it. Looks good as new. THe C has lots of small hair line scratches and swirl marks.

What I would be interested in knowing is what happens if you need to get something repainted? THe paint shops I have asked have no idea what nano paint is? Do you have to buy the paint from the dealer and take it to the paint shop?

The proper way is the bodyshop should give your car's VIN number to Mercedes and order the paint through them. By looking up your car's VIN number, MB can tell exactly which day your car was being painted, from which factory, using which blend of paint and they can match the exact color for you.

But how many shops know these procedures or will actually go through all these hassles is a big question!!

Not many, I have spoken to quite a few of them. They use the paint brand that they prefer and have had good luck with and mix it to the factory specifications. You can't "order" your color from the factory and apply it and have it look like the other panels. The nano paint is just a clear coat and is available from certain suppliers listed in a TSB to mercedes-benz. All of the black vehicles I have seen at MB dealers had virtually no swirls. Usually i'd see them with tons of swirls... looks like this paint is pretty good.

So if the nanotech is only in the clearcoat...would it be possible although probably very expensive for one to get their car's clearcoat repainted with the new stuff?

btw nanotech is bits of ceramic embedded in the paint

Theoretically its possible. However, the nano impregnated paint is baked on the car at 425* for 4 days, or was that 4 hours?
As Amdeutsch would say, do a SEARCH, it has been discussed many times.

Unhappy Nanoparticle clearcoat

Since nanoparticle clearcoat use began in March '04, the guy with the 10 month old E-Class who says his car has it is.........uhh...mistaken.

That's a misleading statement, they started putting nano paint in MB's in 2003 but the C-Class didn't get it until 2004.5. You can tell by the color code in the door jamb, if it's starts with C you have been nanonized.

I can say I think it helped a little bit. But I know from some idiot that worked on my car after he wiped it I saw swirls. So no it definitely does not work all that great. To me the paint has a different texture and darkness compared to the other? that's just what I have noticed. This is definitely no break threw in paint technology by far.

I disagree (as usual) as all the web sites with cogent discussions re: nano paint technology indicate at least 2x longevity of finish. I have noticed on my black C230k SS that even when "dirty", the car has a brillant shine. In fact, I'm kinda surprised you said what you did. A neighbor guessed that there was at least 8 coats of paint on my car to account for the deep lustrous shine.

Well. if u read what i said, i never said the shine was not great. It is. The shine to me is alot better. I just dont think it prevents swirls that much. I dont even care what anyway, its just my experience with it. Also, a car can have 20 coats of wax just done and still be swirled but very shiny.

As a 05 c230k SS owner for about 1 month with 4 car washes, 2 from car wash, 2 from myself... I can't say the nano paint really prevents swirl because I see more swirl mark everyday. It had virtually no swirl the day I pick it up. After the first car wash I already saw straight lines on the hood. Now I see light swirl marks on hood and trunk. The sides seem fine.

As for nano paint shine.. yes it looks more shiny than other black cars. But... black is still black, so it needs a lot of care.

I've had my black 2005 c230SS for about 5 weeks now and I don't have any swirl marks...I've cleaned it myself 3 times. Outie, I think the problem you're having is that you brought a black car through the car wash...I wouldn't bring a black car though one unless it's touchfree, and even that I'm skeptical about...you're just asking for swirls and scratches bringing it through a regular carwash.
