Question DC Power source from the car

Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum. I tried to put in a phone bracket and the power cord in the upper level of the armrest compartment for my StarTac. (I removed the regular jack that was designed for the $2000 optional phone) I took apart a regular cigarette lighter adapter and managed to put everything in the compartment. Now everything is nice and neat inside the compartment. However, I'm still drawing power from the cigarette lighter and this looks really wired with the wires (and the plug) coming out of the cup-holder compartment. Is there a way I can draw power from a hidden source.

Thanks!!

There's no AC power in the car, only DC 12v

My guess is that you can use the socket in the upper glove box where the factory phone plugs in. Test each wire for 12v or buy the wire from the dealer and plug your phone in. You won't be able to use the dialing and handsfree features but you should get power to charge the phone. The reason I didn't do this is because I didn't think that you will be able to hear your phone ring in there and I don't want to open the glove box everytime I want to answer the phone.

Thank you! I thought of that also. However I checked the wire and they are linked to the trunk. (Between the back seats and the spare tire) The other end of the wire is "open" with a few plugs and my guess is these plugs go into a phone module (which powers the phone) if equipped. My next bet is to figure out how to remove the trim around the cup-holder and that might help.

I do agree with you that it's a hassle to open the cover every time I have to answer the phone. :p I did it just for the fun coz I love performing operations to my car. Doing it at the dealer is such a rip-off. (When I had my A4, the dealer was going to charge me $300 to remove the front panel and install a bracket, I look up the web and did it in 5 mins)

Thanks again for your input.

If the wire from the console connecter goes to the trunk then it should be easy to find power in the trunk and attach it to that wire. There's probably a wire connector that powers the missing phone module that can be tapped into. That would be the easiest, cleanest way to go.
