Russell
I just said what I went thru with mine he has the exact same symptoms as I did and it fixed it easy as something not hooked back up I would have never thought that a temp sensor would make a car act that way and when I put on coder it had 10 different things wrong 5 outta6 misfires map sensor bad so if this help the guy or someone else then good no harm in checking
isn’t that what we’re here for to help each other smart ***

Forget the DAS, just see if you can connect with a standard OBDII reader.
If you don't' have one, borrow one from Auto Zone or oreily, or get a $6 BT OBD interface on ebay and
connect to Torque on a android phone. Any android phone, even one thats not connected to the
cellular.
If you're getting errors relating to being timing being over retarded and such, might be the balance shaft.
Also if the car was out in the rain and there's water in the wiring or electronics, that would cause wierd
connection issues. Let it dry out and try again. Been there done that.
I've learned the hard way to cover the roof and hatch when it rains.
Water seems to get in through the hatch.
