Silent Panic Alarm Fix

Hi all,

Im trying to find the cause to my panic alarm siren being silent on my ‘02 C240. I used to work at a benz dealership and noticed this is common but I can’t find anything online about it. I’m thinking I either need a new siren or just need to replace the fuse, however I cannot find where the fuse is located. If anyone knows or has run into this issue before, any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

One way to test the fuse is to hold the Panic button on the fob and see if the lights start flashing. Should flash the front fog lights and rear tail lights (maybe more but those are what I notice the most). The fuse will be in the trunk, fuse number 8, and should be a 7.5 amp if you want to check it that way.

The siren is most likely broken as it is very, very common that they go out due to their location in the passenger wheel well. Water and other debris tend to get to where the siren is located and render it inoperable.

I thought the battery goes bad on these things quite regularly. That might be messing with the electronics.

That's true, the battery tends to go bad due to age. However, iirc this causes the alarm to randomly activate and cause the battery of the car to drain. Happened to my father's '06 C350 and he just disconnected the siren until he was able to replace it.

If I were to replace the siren, Is there any way I could protect it from any water? Maybe I can make some kinda cover for it.
