Internet purchase from cali worth it? Possible?

I am looking to purchase a 2005 C230 in Austin, Texas this week. I am not sure how easy it is to get invoice price around here. There are two dealerships (one is new) but they may be owned by the same people.

Anyhow, has any one considered ordering a car from a dealership in socal for 1k-2k under invoice and having them ship the car to where they live? Even at 1$ a mile for shipping it may be worth it. Any thoughts?

Also, before you do anything, why dont you go down to a couple dealers yourself and see what you can do before looking elsewhere.

Cost to ship is about $1200. I was able to get $1300 under invoice in Texas 2 months ago........ I can check and see....

I do plan on working with local dealers before seriously looking into other options but if I am not able to get a good deal I want to be prepared to walk knowing that I can do better elsewhere.

Thanks I appreciate it. I was talking to the sales guy about getting a car from Florida shipped in and he said the covered carrier they use has a cap of $1000. Then again I would not be suprised if he was totaly BS'ing me.

I was from Austin, I purchased my C from MB of Austin. You should search Houston and Dallas. So you will save the shipping cost.

O.k so you have a piece of good information. Ask that salesman the name of the carrier they use so you can verify their history. Now you have that info for your own file if you need it.
