Anyone install a compass in 2005 C-class (w/o COMMAND)

I've read some threads about mounting a compass in older models. Has anyone tried it with a '05 model? (pictures?)

Also, my dealer said that I can only get the navigation system installed by the factory (and I would have had to wait 3 months for my car to be delivered; so I didn't get it). Any experienced members with recommendations as to some "after the fact" alternatives? I have read some threads that suggest using Steve of MBENZ-NL (www.mbenznl.com for those interested) but I haven't seen any information that applies for the 2005 models.

Thanks.

Well, I've tried but to no avail.

The "best" compass that I've found is the Wayfinder V700, it's $37 at Buy.com and you can pick it up at Brookstone (they'll price match, just show them a print out of this: http://www.buy.com/retail/product.as...2&loc=111&sp=1).

The size is acceptably right and it fits in the ashtray slot (if you remove the ashtray) with the mounting bracket attached. But I wasn't thrilled... so I've given up, returned the compass and now I use the ashtray for my IPOD: you can run a wire from the AUX input to the ashtray slot, attach a L-shaped headphone jack ($3 at RadioShacK) and you're all set. You can't read the IPOD screen but it sits at an angle and you can easily reach the buttons to turn it on, off, skip, etc. The bay cover closes without obstruction so you can hide the IPOD.

Now if I can find a way to attach a charger also. I can't find a low profile car charger that fits.
