A picture would help... if the undercoat is showing you can either touch it up as a quick fix, replace the strip (yes it can be done) or get the strip resprayed. Touch up paint is probably your best bet but it depends on how big the scratch is and how **** you are about your car. You are lucky its on the impact strip and not on the actual body.

Thanks for the repsonse...
do you by any chance have an idea as to how you would order a new impact strip. through the dealer? does it come primed?
does anyone have experience with having to replace or get an impact strip repainted?
-thanks

(1) Most dealerships will give you a free bottle of touch-up paint, but it's different from dealership to stealership... apply carefuly.
(2) Take the car to a local collision repair shop and see if they can salvage the part.
(3) Get the part from dealer or shop, and take it to a local collision repair shop for new paint and mounting.
Keep in mind that when you take something to get painted, most places have a minimum. So you may get a redicilus quote for smaller parts (unless you get lucky or know someone there). This would be a good time to get one or two other small parts that need paint so you can at least get your moneys worth.

The used car dept. at the dealership probably has "a guy" who comes around to repair this kind of damage. If necessary he will fill the scratch and airbrush on the correct paint color. Maybe you can get his tel. no. from the dealership or any used car lot. Then he will come to where ever your car is to give an estimate and/or do the job.

I had the same problem when the garage door grazed my bumper on my 2 week old car. I took it to one of those places that does paintless dent removal and they also did airbrush. They had to sand it smooth, re-prime, paint and clear cloat and it looks like new. Cost me $150 but they only did the center strip, not the whole bumper.
