side view mirrors stolen, anyone else?
Yesterday afternoon I walked out of my office building into the parking garage and got in my car... just like any other afternoon... Went to turn on my car and notice a warning on my hud... left blinker error... then right blinker error... So I look out my window and instead of seeing a side mirror I see a couple wires sticking out. I look at my passenger side mirror and only see the mirror (no casing!).
Get out of the car and it looks like someone removed the entire driver side mirror and the casing around the passenger side mirror. No other damage to the car or the mirror mount area. Looks like whoever did it knew how to remove the mirror.
I am pretty upset, made the police report, insurance claim, and call into my service advisor... Is the resale market for the mirrors pretty hot?? I have no idea why someone would go through the trouble to do this in a large, fairly busy office parking garage...
There is a clk convertible that also parks in the garage that I looked at to see if it was bothered. It had the folding mirrors but I notices one of them was folding in and the other was bent backwards a bit. I am thinking they were trying to remove it (and my passenger side mirror) but were interupted and gave up.

GOD!!!!!!!! I hate hearing this ****! I'm sorry dude, that sucks! This scares me just as much as those idiots that steal bix's. I hope they didn't damage anything else and that everything'll be fine.
btw, check out the C32/C55 forum, someone tried to jack the side view mirrors off of a C55 lately as well.
I hate the punks that do that!

Man, that sucks! Sorry to hear that...
But, I would definitely say that depending on what your deductable is for your insurance, it would be worth finding out if you could get the Euro Convex/Folding Mirrors/2005 casing/2005 blinkers put on as replacements!
Sometimes, mis-fortune can actually turn out to be a "fortunate" occurance.

Thanks for the replies, and I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else. I spoke with the dealer who quoted me a 2002 C240 had its side view mirrors replaced for $1500 ($1100 in parts). Good thing is my insurance deductible is $250 so I may consider some of the options posted here. Where can I find more info about folding mirrors and/or 2005 led mirrors (besides searching this board of course)?
Also, how easy are they to install yourself? Do I purchase them through my dealer or is ebay a good source?
Thanks for the info and kind words everyone, appreciate it.

If your insurance deductible is only $250, I'd say it is definitely worth it. It's better to purchase through Steve than through the Dealer and if everything except $250 comes out of the Insurance company?...Oh man, I'd replace all that in a second.
I wouldn't trust myself with the install on the Folding Mirrors/Euro Convex mirrors because that also requires a replacement of the interior switchboard. Steve just came to Orange County, CA to do some installs, but I believe he went back already. There may be other MB mechanics that would be able to replace the items for you for a much cheaper "labor" price than the "stealership"...Good luck with everything!

the only problem is im not sure if steve works with insurance companies. you may have to front the money then get paid back thru your insurance company. im not sure, but that is the only issue i foresee going this route. which isnt really a big deal, but an extra hump to deal with.
steve is a great guy to buy stuff from. 85% of my OEM mods were from Steve.

Thanks for the information!
I sent Steve an email yesterday to see what was available for what price and I will go from there. I know a body shop here in town that will probably allow me to buy it with my own money and then they charge the insurance company. My insurance company is having me take it to an estimator today... considering almost 100% of the costs is parts I am not expecting any surprises but you never know. =)

That sucks!
Keep an eye open for a Honduh rolling with them unpainted...
Go up to him and tell him you have a honduh just like that and ask, in an envy like manner, where to get those mirrors from. Most idiots that commit vandalizm will pride on thier work. If he admits ripping em off of a Benz, introduce him to your MB tire-iron

Sucks, indeed. I had an old granny break apart my whole driver's side mirror while trying to pass me with her maxima on the left lane. Dealership quoted me $1500, but I ended up getting a non dimmed mirror for a little less then that.
Sorry to hear.

Just had it fixed with the new led mirrors, total was about 1200$ but would have been more if they had to order the right side mirror glass.
I looked a bit closer at how it was removed and the mirrors are held on by non standard bolts (torx) however they didn't unscrew them to get the mirror off, looks like they just bent the mirror bracket once they got the enclosure off.

Got the new indicators on both sides and new glass on the driver side (passenger side still has mirror/glass that didn't need to be replaced). Looks pretty sweet. My only complaint is my original mirror on the passenger side has the text "objects may appear closer than they really are" and the new mirror doesn't... Not such a big deal I will get over it.
Ive been parking on the 3rd floor of the parking lot so I can look out my office window and see my car... its a little more of a walk but atleast I have some piece of mind. :P
