i've heard someone say "kickdown" but didn't know what it was and i've noticed the button under my throttle pedal but didn't know what it was for and now i know! i did some expirimenting with the button and i'm guessing it's only for auto transmission. pressing it on my 6 speed makes no difference in acceleration. i was hoping it would instantly increase supercharger boost or something haha.

I don't do WOT anymore, since the gas here is like $2.49 for premium. But I also felt the button too while I was testing the car with a dop in K&N filter. I hit the redline much faster now~

Hmm, i always thought it was to send out the smoke screen and the oil slick to get the bad guys behind you, and two presses sends out side winder missles.

so if i were to hold that button down say from a stand still till i hit 135....there will be no problems for my auto tranny to shift? ...it wouldn't redline for too long or anything will it?

man, i hate to be a ***** here but you'd think with someone buying a higher end car like this (even if it is the baseline MB), it'd attract two main types of people: driving/automobile enthusiasts, and rich people without a clue. i can see that the latter is the majority here.
even a 50's chevy did have a type of kickdown setup, linked to the throttle/vacumm (just so's ya'll know- throttle position and vaccum pressure are directly related in naturally aspirated cars, and even in super/turbo-charged vehicles, but the forced inducion adds another factor i'm not even going to touch on here.)
i thought that a WOT/kickdown setup was common knowledge.....even my mother knows what it is, and where it is, and shes not car savvy at all!

The tranny by design will only drop one gear lower unless you hit that switch. So if you are going 40 MPH in 5th and floor it but do not engage the kickdown switch you will only drop to 4th gear. The switch tells the tranny controller to drop to the absolute lowest gear that can be used so at 40 it would drop to at least 3rd. I even have this on my 190E, it uses a standard bowden cable for downshifting but at say 25 I am in 4th if just cruising, so it will only drop to 3rd. Well I want 2nd so I push hard enough to engage the switch and then my transmission drops to 2nd for me. Also in that car it forces a 1st gear start as opposed to 2nd gear which is normal. Its main purpose though is WOT!

Hmm, 135, I thought I touched 139, perhaps even 140. I "WUZ" driven up DA 5 on the way TA Napa. I'll admit that at those speeds I "WUZNT" paying 2 much attention to the speedo though.

W203 slightly modified
The foot is nearest the switch when tempomat (speed limit mode) is engaged - you can be driving at 18mph and have your foot all the way down and it doesnt go much faster all (unless dowhill). A press of the switch and it all switches off.

The switch is also present in the diesel cars (CDI's to be precise) to enable the turbocharger to spool up earlier...I have driven an E 270 CDI 6-speed, u dont need to let go off the accelerator pedal when changin gears as long as u have ur foot all the way down n have the button pressed.
