Arrow C-Class Convinced

Okay everyone. I am now convinced, due to researching price, options, and features, to get a 230SS. As a 20 yr old, I am a first time Mercedes buyer. Now I need a personal owners opinion of their own C-class....

How do you guys like your C-class? How does it ride? Power? Image? Handling and Steering? Sound system quality, good or bad? And most of all.....How is the quality of interior materials in the car? Please be descriptive. Interior quality question is very important to me.

I could read professional editorials on this, but I think an owner's input would be more informative, since you do live with the vehicle...lol

Thanks again, remember: I do want a car with good quality interior materials, not too utilitarian, but good and pleasing to the touch and "aesthecially" pleasing.

first of all welcome. great choice in car. this is my 3rd mercedes. i'm 28 and i love them.

How do you guys like your C-class? i love the C-Class. The C230WZ is a great car, and had i wanted a sedan i would have bought it. the coupe was what i wanted and Citron Green wasnt available on the sedan. ive had a C230WZ loaner and they are nice cars.
How does it ride? awesome. still comfy, yet sporty enough to handle those windy roads.
Power? this you may get different opinions on. i think its enough for me. i love the gas mileage of the 1.8 and i think that the power is enough. i do not think the M271 engine is underpowered for the car.
Image? get what you want, not what others want you to get. dont live to make other people happy. all of my family hates the color of my car. i make the payments, i got what i wanted. as for the general public. there will be those who will see the three-pointed star and go wow. there will be those who will see you as having just a C-class. youll never win.
Handling and Steering?like i said, i think the handling is great. steering is awesome as well. i dont do slomoms all the time so i cant give a professional driver standpoint. but as a fulltime student who works full time as well, who loves to drive i think its great.
Sound system quality, good or bad? i have the bose since my car is an 03. the H/K i hear is better, some say its not. personal preference i guess. i love the bass in my sound system, but im not a huge audiophile. as long as the music sounds good, im cool.
And most of all.....How is the quality of interior materials in the car? well i think the 01-04 was nice, but the 05 is top notch from seeing the cars at the dealers and from what ive read from personal opinions here and in magazines. the interior is awesome and the aluminum trim and gauges are what they should have been from the beginning. oh well. we cant have it all. these are great cars to mod.
there are so many mods you can do while still keeping the OEM look.

good luck!

My 03 C230 SS

How do you guys like your C-class?
I love it. It's not too big and Sporty.
How does it ride? Good, nice sport/luxury feel. It's not too cadillac style that would make you seasick, but it feels cushiony. Has a good sporty response (I just recieved my cupkit today so it's about to change)

Power? It's OK, I did not buy the car for power, If you're looking for torque or a high power car, it's not it. This car has a reasonable amount of power and good gas mileage. It has a good power for the weight of the car and it satisfies me. If I need power fix I hop in my ML 55 and zoom around, but then I notice the gas needle moving towards E and miss my C class.

Image? Just as above, I did not buy the car for image. I like MB and I wanted to get one. Instead of buying a used E Class I wanted something new that I could call my own. So I bought a C Class. Some people think it's expensive, some don't. I don't care, those Are not the people I care to hear opinions from. The people that think its expensive are not people that are looking to be your friends for you, and the people that think its just a C class would not be satisfied if you bought a maybach. They would just say "Why didn't you get a ______" (fill in blank with any car of choice) Remember the car should satisfy the owner.

Handling and Steering? The Handling is good for a daily driver. If you want more of a road race car, you might want to switch out the sway bars and springs. I think most people are satisfied with the OEm handling characteristics. I know I was when I first got my car, then I found this webpage and the modbug bit me

Sound system quality, good or bad? I am about to upgrade to Command, so hopefully it will be better. As of now I have a 12" Elemental Designs Subwoofer mounted in the trunk. It feeds the basshead in me. The factory speakers and OEM headunit is very nice, I used to have a SUV with a full multimedia system in it. I like the convenience of the Steering wheel buttons, and so I decided just to leave the headunit OEM. I am happy with my decision.

How is the quality of interior materials in the car? The workmanship is good on mine. I have a sqeaky seat that started recently. I have seen that to be common in the C class. The leather is nice, and the seats hug. I love how close everything is to the driver in the C230. I am reminded of it everytime I drive the ML and have to reach over for the radio or pull over to change the CD magazine.

I hope you enjoy your New C Class And Welcome to the W203!

20 yo and 'aesthecially pleasing' means you're buying it to turn heads and drop panties. Good choice, there's another thread discussing the same thing recently (I bought mine when I was 23 for the same reasons, if I'm wrong about your reasons please say so).

Save some cash and buy a new grill, 19s, C55 spoiler and springs/coilovers - that's a start towards 'aesthecially pleasing'

I'm also 20 and I love the car! Its not the best at much (Other than looks) but its great at everything! It drives nice, it has pep, it handles well, I would say the 05's are on par with the current BMW 3 series (personal opinion, never got out to track either car). I love the interior, but do like the gauges they have in Germany from the pictures I've seen. HK system is ok, could use a little more bass but not much! Image? Its a Benz! People will look at you like a spoiled little brat whose parents bought you a car! Others will say "OH! HE GOT A BENZ?!!! OH MY GOD I WANT HIM IN MY PANTS RIGHT NOW!!!" (Yet to find those people!!! But working on it LOL!!!) As far as power goes, hey everything can use more power... But to be honest, for the same price I could have gotten a Lancer EVO VIII or an STi, but 1) I will either lose my life or my license, thats enevitable when thats your daily car at this age! 2) Insurance is a killer and 3) At the end of the day, you're still driving a Subbie or a Mitsu!!! I enjoy my car alot (Put 4k miles in 2 months) and If I can get an extra 20 to 30 hp out of it, ill be happy!

By the way I busted my *** this summer and saved up $20grand to buy this car! Im paying off the rest till I graduate then It becomes my gift! So to all those people who look at me like I'm a brat... I flip 'em off and drive away 'cause I earned it!!!

You'e gonna get a lot of replies like the 2 above. Don't listen to the ********* members of this site - find the other site (unmentioned for fear of the all-mighty TOU) and forums for the C-class and you'll find a membership more suited for our age group.

So your saying at the "other" site members are more suited to, and I quote this guy Capt. Nemo, to talk about

OH! HE GOT A BENZ?!!! OH MY GOD I WANT HIM IN MY PANTS RIGHT NOW!!!"

and

"I will either lose my life or my license, thats enevitable when thats your daily car at this age! "

now I'd maybe want to think twice b4 linking your self to someone like this...

Well just to let you all know...

Yes I saved 20 grand, that included 8 Grand from the sale of my old car and some spare parts from my Triumph that I got from the guy I bought it from. I also Got an awesome job over the summer that paid really well because I got it from a friend. I also worked doing commercial diving which also pays really well. Then there was the money I saved up from doing Valet Parking. Oh and also, see my name, Captian... Im a ****ing captian licensed by the USCG, that paid me $150+ A DAY! So all you non believers can go suck my damn ****.

Two, I am a much better person then you will ever be ****hole! The joke about some one wanting to get in my pants was just that, A JOKE! I would never use my car to win a date, nor would I EVER want to date the girl that wants to date me simply for my car. I wouldnt touch that *** guzzeling gutter **** with a 10 foot pole.

And Third... Deciding not to get one of those cars was a smart decision. See I know myself well enough that one day, If I had one of those cars, I would be too tempted to drive like a real *******. Its called self restraint.

I would be honored to be associated with some one like me, as anyone should. If you werent so judgemental and actually knew some one before you talked **** you would see that.

And go ahead... Call me what you will, cause like I said, I know I busted my *** to get this car, and Im still butsting my ***. All you douche bags that want to talk **** can go suck a greyhounds musty *** mother ****ers.

And if this post gets me banned, FINE! I came here to seek help and advice and to give it, not to listen to little *****es who have nothing better to do than talk **** to people. I dont need that **** in my day, I got enough to do.

So, with that said... If this is my last post here... **** OFF HIPPES!

Aint the internet great?

Back on topic, yes, I like my C-Class. I prefer the Coupe over the sedan for many reasons, but your time is running out to get one. Yes, you will definately like the 05. As Nemo said, it handles as good as a 3 series, but rides a lot nicer. I always felt the C-Class was superior out on the highway, and in terms of ride quality, but wasn't as quick reacting as the 3 series at lower speeds. No more, the 05 is that good.

Enjoy!

Hmmm, you'd better say "busque EN el foro" (and if you want to be real hard, even better "busca en el foro", "busque" sounds too polite for newbies like me)

Unfortunately, respdoc's at the "other" forum, too.

The C CAN be configured to be on par with the 3 series handling-wise, but it's not at that level out of the box.

My car's 3.5 years old now, and I still love it, despite the occasional WTF in minor annoyances. But tuning/modding/making the interior seem interesting is very hard on these cars, so either have deep pockets, or really like them in stock form (for the most part).

Happy shopping!

I know , so is moderator "I 'am a douche' bag" yet he hides under some other user name.

I referred him awya from here cause he might actually be interested in discussing the car's potential, not just whining about reliablity of squeaks like the majority here while being too afraid to even work on their own car.

I fully intend to stay! I just get annoyed with people who constantly attack and belittle other members. This isn't high school anymore! If you disagree, be polite about it. If you're proved wrong, be an adult and admit it. If you got nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all. We are all here for a common interest, Cant we all just get along?! I understand jokes and all, and can take them all, but more often than not it seems like these attacks are not jokes.

BTW is it possible we can get that under my name?! That would be swell!!!

OH YEAH! Welcome to the forum! It's not always like this!!!

Why yes I am....and can tell you if this dweeb tries to post this crap at the other site they will just ban him...

As for your other comment, besides a change of your "neons" and a couple of unsuccessful body panel group buys I'm drawing a blank on anything you have done to your increase your car's "potential"

Depends on what you classify as 'potential', and we all know your view on mods. I have no desire to do what nukblazi does to his car - mine is a daily driver and performs well-enough, my focus is appearance mods to set it apart since Canadians seem to like this car and there's many in my city.

Your knowledge is first-rate - yet I've always wondered - is your car stock?

Ah, you will see soon enough, just waiting for the spring to come to install the things I've been collecting all winter. I bought a house last year, it ate into my 'mod budget' From what I've purchased so far and have on order, this year looks promising!

Don't be hating on the glow! I post on other forums dedicated to vehicle accent lighting (LEDs, not cathodes). Its an great hobby for anyone combining interests in digital electronics and cars.

Taylor,

A vast majority of my knowledge comes from past car projects excluding my current car. I did enjoy modding my main project ('00 Celica) a while back and while getting to play with supercharging, chipping, pullies, NOS. etc. that I did to the car...I also made my fair share of mistakes and after 2 complete engine rebuilds later..maybe learned a thing or two of what I should and should not do the next time around..

As for this car I think my service log on everything from rattles to the car just not starting is about a good half an inch thick now...and despite the dealers attempt by asking me on five seperate occasions "Is the Engine Modified??" in hopes to try to save them from paying a costly repair bill....my car's engine remains stock...

So my view on modding is, if done right, it can be very rewarding...But b4 a person gets under the hood they need to 1) fully understand what they are doing under there 2) understand, weight, and be able to stomach the costly expense if they mess up to any benefit they might get from doing that mod.

Hey Captain - I'm feelin' you man! Coast Guard license = respect!

I'm getting a C230 SS myself to replace the C230 Sports Coupe which I still love. I know we don't need to flip a lot of burgers to be able to afford a baby benz - if you know how to set up IP telephony you're in business as well!

Enjoy the drive and keep posting Cap'!
