Note: The $600 "rebate" was obtained through a professional association. Dealer mentioned he was unable to do any better since he also had to pay a referral fee to the association. Althought he did not mention it clearly, my understanding is that if it was not for the referral fee, there might have been room for more. Hope this tip might help someone.

what is the calculated depreciation for a MB like this? Say if you waited until spring and found one with 10-20K on it? 30k$ for a 350?

Doing Euro Delivery in April = 7% off MSRP and I don't pay the $775 freight charge . Basically you can't get any $ off if you do Euro delivery becuase they know you're saving about 8.38% off MSRP picking it up at the factory.

Most MB dealers will give better discounts to "preferred" customers. I'm guessing he's bought at least one or two other cars from them.

I agree with your decision to get the C-Class over the E. The C has all the latest stuff and is at the beginning of it's life whereas the E is at the end.

Also just to confirm and support your decision, you can't even get cooled seats on an E350, you would need to get an E550 or E63 AMG to get this option.

Out of curiosity, what dealership in Chicago did you deal with?

Yup, the dealer I worked with was 'Mercedes Benz of Chicago' my sales guy was Lanny S. Oh another reason for the C is the size. The E can feel a little bulky to me and the C feels more connected. The S550 feels more connected than the E, but the S is almost 2x the cost.

Some of you are hilarious with your searching & e-mailing all over the place…waiting months on end etc... Driving 200, 300…..800 miles to save $300.00 insane…. It was worth the $300 I didn’t save to be the first in town with a new W204…. Hell I think I spill $300.00 a day Lol I know I don’t have the time to dicker over the price for an Automobile I’m going to **cough** write-off next year anyway. Also what gets me weaker is some of you, I’m not pointing any fingers… but some of you that weasel the dealer down to his last pair of sox on the price are the ones so… worried about the resale value on these cars. Why don’t you think about it for a second, some of you characters are the very ones that sap any resale that could have been had right out of the cars.

In short I used to support my family on a “car salesman’s” wage, when a car salesman does his job well.. I.e. Locating, Demo, working with and around your tight-wad @&& for weeks on end, coming in on days off when one could be with his/ her family etc.. and if that car is delivered without a scratch and is thoroughly gone over and explained. They deserve a commission, as that’s all they will make. If you’ve never done the job you have no clue of what the “military-esq” environment is like.

I agree everyone deserves to earn a living but I think you are blaming the wrong people. As consumers, everyone is going to try to get the best price they can, there is nothing wrong with that. If you think that the way the commission system works is unfair then point the finger at the manufactuers or dealers.

Could you shed some light on this btw, I really don't know all the details of how it works. But I understand the lower they sell the car for, the less comission the sales person gets.

New to the boards and happy to say we just put in an order for my wife's new C350 Sport. She had her heart set on a new BMW 5-Series to replace her 01' 525 but decided to jump ship after the recent horrible side impact test results the Bimmer had.

Anyway, good luck on the new 350. My sister has a 545i and today I went to Mercedes with her yesterday to look and test drive the New C350. I liked the C350's design.:) IT AIN'T NO 5 Series (Not in its class) but in comparison to the 335i, the C350 does hold its own weight; design-wise.:y There is a 2-3 design elements externally Mercedes and BMW share in common.

The bridge comment was uncalled for but i did have a good look at the 5's center console/armrest. I really can picture it being a little more hazardous to the driver than the other cars. Yes the C350 is for my wife, the 01' 525 was picked out mainly for its best in class safety at the time. I think BMW slipped a notch with the new 5-Series, it took a couple of years for us to even like its looks (shouldnt have had to) but once the side impact tests came out it dropped off the list. Do you really believe I'm the only one that believes the side impact test report? With all the fricken drivers these days and their cell phones strapped to their ear (get a damn BT at least), we should all pay attention to modern day test results. Just my opinion.

Hmm why did you need to pay extra for a cd player with the P2 package? The P2 package has the multimedia package right? So that already includes the cd player.

What do you guys think about MB's pricing of the new C-Class? Do you think it is fair and good value for the money?

Absolultely. The car is actually cheaper than the outgoing C-Class. We also pay the least for these cars in the world. The same car would be much more in Europe. Also keep in mind that since the W202 C-Class came out almost 14 years ago, the base price has remained virtually unchanged.

Crash tests are are based on predetermined scenarios, which in my opinion the Volvo scenario in the article bears little resemblance to many real world situations. The test "experts" assume many factors and all test rating criterias are judged based on their predetermined criterias (who knows if they have any sponsors behind the scenes).

I think a more effective ranking of car safety should just be based on collecting real world crash scenario data and analysing that. How well did occupants survive in all real world crashes by car type, given the cars' technology? That would be objective because the crashes are real and the occupants, if they survived, can also be assessed.

Lets remind ourselves, BMWs are in general a lot safer than other tin cans on the road. Getting into a car is an calculated risk we take every day.

Wrong. P2 and MM are separate options. MM, not P2, does include a single slot 6 disc CD changer and well it should for $2950.

P2 is a paltry $2750. Gasp!

The ONLY manufacturer? What about Porsche, as one glowing example? And what does he mean, "one vehicle"? Looks to me like BMWs all the way from the new one series to the X-5 and the God-awful 7 are very different from each other requiring different structural approaches to crushability.

Late to the party, I would say. Mercedes in Germany has had a Go-Team for years that investigates MB-involved accidents on-site before the wreckage is cleared away in cooperation with the German police.

I've seen a lot of these manufacturer's responses to less-than-great test results by various entities and they have a common thread. Dazzle them with BS and say nothing substantive. This is a shining example of that approach.

Just got back from the dealership and added the Panorama Sunroof for another $930, you would figure they already got us as a customer that they could knock off a bit more than $70 from the MSRP price. One great perk I did find out about our dealership is complimentary free car washes Mon-Sat 9am-2pm, great bonus considering that we ordered the C350 in Black.

I'd be careful about that free carwash from the dealer. Probably an automatic car wash that might be good to put some swirl marks in your black paint.

That may be true...my dealership actually gave me a tour of everything, including the car wash (not automatic). I'd say it is a safe question to ask, but for me I know it'll be hand washed.

Our salesman walked me through the inventory (not many W204s) in the back to demo the Pano Roof so we can make a final decision on the option. He then mentioned the car washing perk as we walked pass the detailing area, a car just left the hand washing area (suds still all over it) and was being driven through a rinsing booth which looked like a mechanical car washing stall but this contraption did not spin as fast as the typical Chevron washing stalls. I questioned the possibility of scratches or swirl marks and his reply was "do you think we'd put our $100k vehicles through there if we thought it could cause scratches?). I was welcomed to have a good inspection of all the cars because they all went through the same process due to the recent rains. I'll probably ask for another tour just to watch a few cars go through the entire wash process, so far the detailing and service areas look top notch.

So, I'd say you're safe with the dealer car washes unless your dealer is smaller; or if you think they hand wash the S's but take the C's down the road to the gas station car wash...

I saw an SLR go through the touch car wash at our dealer. We've taken my wife's car (very light color) through there 2 times and it's got swirling from it.

Nothing that won't polish out, but it's there.

To a dealer, a car is just a commoditity. Doesn't matter if it's worth 20k or 120k. They could care less about the condition of the paint, as long as they can offer up the washes as a perk over their competition.

Very good points. Also the dealer knows better than anyone that the majority of people lease their cars, so they really don't care that much since they turn it in after 2-3 years.

Wash my car again? Not bloody likely.

Ohhh, boy.

Like a fool, I asked for a "courtesy wash" at my dealer (they are BIG) six months ago (first and last ever) and it was a huge mistake. I had the same idea, what could happen, after all? It wasn't the car wash itself, but the trained apes running the thing. I watched through an elevated window as my Obsidian Black C320 progressed toward the washer and watched as one of "them" picked up a long handled brush used for wheels and scrubbed across the roof and them across the tail end before it went into the washer. It was blown semi-dry and it wasn't until I got it home into the garage that I saw the scratches (not just swirls) all over the top and the back end.

Pause for top to blow off.

After that fateful day, I have spent perhaps twenty hours with my random-orbital buffer removing about 95% of the damage. I did have a word with the service manager later.

I will be going back to NO WASH at all future service visits.

I just ordered my New C350
 

I ordered it with the multi media package and the metalic paint, palladium silver to be exact. I also ordered the grey black due to the high sun where I live. I think that I got a great deal by approching many dealers in the area. My MSRP comes to $41,710 with destination charge. I offered $39,350, and I did get 1 dealer to take it. I figured it was worth a 2 hour drive to save $2360. My local dealer wanted $1,000 to order and then they wanted full sticker. The other guy only asked for $500. :y

I don't want to work with a salesman who has such a negative view of his customers. I guess some of YOUR kind made the profession less-than-noble for the consumers. Next time, don't be so quick to point the finger. You don't like dealing with the customer...trust me, dealing with the salesman at my local dealership isn't my ideal way of spending a Saturday. Somewhat agree, and somewhat disagree. Bottom line is, you either will or you won't. As a sales person you can't get "beat up" by a customer over a few hundred dollars unless you're willing or desperate. Just tell the customer it isn't going to happen and politely move them toward the door.

I asked the dealer (and my experience with all dealers is, if their lips are moving, they are lying) and he assured me it is coming from Germany and that no 350s are made in SA.

I called MBUSA and the rep hemmed and hawed and never gave an answer.

So, how do I tell, without having a VIN yet, where it is produced?

I'm leaning toward cancelling if it is built in East London, SA.

It is the same car, regardless of where it is made....but if you want to know ask your dealer to pull up the batch info in NetStar and they can tell you exactly where it will be made from that.

Dude I sit at this computer for about 2-3 hours a day that is oh...say two bedrooms from my master bedroom, I haven't been a car salesman in 7-8 years, my point earlier is that at some point just buy the car you want is it really worth spending $100 gas +/- your valuable time? If I'm out looking and haggling cars my current business is losing money, as valuable time I could be enjoying with my wife or on the greens. My car was one of the first ones delivered in the area, the dealer wanted MSRP we shook hands and I was happy as a clam.

I just try to play personally as fair as possible and believe in karma. I see where you're coming from, but like all things there's a balance. I don't know how much you make, but if I can go into the dealer and negotiate the price of a car for an hour and save >$1000 that's a pretty good time expenditure for me. I'm on salary. I don't make $500 an hour. Now, if I'm doing this for weeks on end, or I'm driving all over the place, sure there's a point where my time is worth more than the effort. But I'll give up an hour to save $1000. If you take the point of view that that $1000 is spread over a financing term, it may not seem like much, but money is money and nobody got rich spending it.

I'll concede that there comes a point where negotiating becomes a silly waste of time. But having a family full of sales people, I know that all large purchases are negotiable. And I know that there comes a point when they have to walk away from a sale when there's no profit in it for them. That's negotiation though.

Ryan, that's cool that you have the leverage that you don't have to ever negotiate, but you come across as having the attitude that anybody who does is beneath you socially and that negotiating price is a bad thing.

I see your point, and please don't think that's what I mean or I'm trying to convey with your last sentence. I understand all things in commerce are negotiable to an extent. But for a minute lets think about something.. Carmax in contrast is like the Wal Mart of Car dealers, all of their pricing is final and fixed. A friend of mine purchased and was going to purchase a C5 corvette from there and haggled for over an hour, Carmax would not budge a penny off the price of the car..... He left and ended up finding the same car albeit a different color one or two more options, less millage at a Nissan dealer priced 10-15% higher than Carmax, the Nissan dealer ended up letting the pre owned Vette go for $800-$1000 less than Carmax? Carmax sells twice perhaps three times the amount of volume as said Nissan dealer. To my friend the folks at Carmax were jerks even if they were friendly throughout the entire deal because they would not come off their already discounted fixed price. The same Nissan dealer today has gone through three changes of ownership and on the verge of going out of business today.

Maybe I'm a traditionalist in some ways, I like to see "Made in Germany" on a German machine.

On pricing, I think it is ingrained into the public consciouness to negociate some type of discount with vehicles, sort of a game that some play better than others.

In my case, my deal took about 5 minutes after the test drive. On my first visit, my wife and I test drove (the car is for her) with one of the long time salespersons. During it, I casually asked "what kind of numbers are we talking", he looked at me and said $600 over invoice. I left and came back to test drive again with a newbie salesperson, she said immediately stated "all these cars are MSRP period." My wife said $600 over invoice. The salesperson left, came back and said OK. No games, no BS, I was surprised.

Of course, I realize the 'invoice' is not a true invoice, but, we left feeling good, and I took a gander at a used AMG on the lot, so, their working with me may have developed a future customer.

i emailed 30 different dealers and said i was only paying true invoice and only half of their holdback... then gave a really lowball offer...

of the handful of dealers that emailed back with counter offers, I countered back then used the counter of the counters to show to other dealers and make them beat the others price... i did this a few times until one got in my range

so what is your invoice vs. true invoice?

As to what their real cost is, I have no way of knowing, but, I'm pretty certain the invoice they showed me is not their true cost, which is probably determined by some complicated formula involving location, amount of sales, length of time in business, holdbacks, incentives, credits, etc.

For those of you who brought up the E-Class in this thread . . . I've been on the fence for an E so long I have that bar imprint in my thighs permanently! I REALLY like the looks of the new C-class but I had a little trouble with the size. The front seat wasn't that bad . . . but the back seat . . yikes. I'm just under 5'11" and I could feel my hair (and no, I don't have a Lyle Lovett doo) brushing on the headliner. I had a LOT of trouble getting in and out of the back too. I'm not thin but I'm not round either. For those of you about to say "well you won't be riding in the back anyway," it's just a test I do on any vehicle I buy. I want my passengers to be comfortable.

I like that the C300 2wd can burn E85. Has anyone tried it?

As for the debate on discounts that is interspersed in this thread, nobody will ever win that debate. You'll just piss each other off. Personally I like shooting for $500 to $1000 over invoice. When I got close to purchasing an E320 CDI, the dealer was going to go $500 under invoice and then subract whatever incentive there was at the time . . . but that was a couple of years ago when there was a temporary glut.

Paid MSRP here. Got a free carbon fiber pen, but that's it (Tried for the watch, but they didn't have any).

On what model? Neither the 2008 "build your car" web site nor the printed brochure have package numbers. We have the C300 Sport with Premium Package II, and it does not include the 6-disk changer. The window sticker lists the P2 as code P02. The changer is included with the Multimedia package, and chosing the MM package says that you cannot also select the 6-disk changer.

I agree in that the C may be just a bit small, but it is the entry Benz and they have given a bit more room in it then the previous models.

I'd hold off on getting an E right now since MB is coming out with a redesign of that one too in MY2010. I might look into the new E myself when it comes out.

We have the car with the P2 package. It was not ordered specific, just off a lot. No changer.

Does anyone have any recommendations on good dealerships around the Seattle area? The salespeople in MB of Bellevue were not very helpful at all. One guy estimated me $2k down, 39 mos, $770/month lease after tax for Arctic white c300, P2 package, leather, pano, 18" amg. Looks like im gettin jacked...

Barrier tried to insist that I pay .00469 as a MF. Plus full msrp. Plus $975 in shipping to get the car from another dealer since they don't have any cars. Then when I tried to get an E350 under the Sept special, they tried to withhold half of the customer cash.

Talk to Kim McMillen over at Phil Smart. They're not moving numbers as much as I hoped, but they're will to talk and their first offers aren't insulting like Barrier's.

Plus they seem to have a lot more C's than Barrier does.

Phil Smart. I got a much better deal out them overall. Still paid msrp, but I got buyrate on the MF (which still sucks) what I wanted for my trade-in and the color and options I wanted without having to pick lesser evils. The car wash just wasn't enough incentive to get raped like that.

I don't if you can back out if you've signed papers or not, but my personal philosophy is that everything is negotiable until I drive away.

The car came in today so I had a chance to look it over before the 18s (with Bridgestone RE050A) are installed and before new car get-ready.

I had forgotten the wonderful smell of a new leather interior. There is a pretty big look-and-feel difference between Tex and leather.

I noticed a sealed package in the trunk containing the floormats which means that any salesman that is "throwing them in" or getting money for them is full of it.

Even though I pick the car up Wednesday afternoon, I am going down again tomorrow (just in the neighborhood, you understand) to check on the wheels.

Come with them.

Some dealers will throw in some all weather or "AMG" floormats if you push them for it.

Been working a deal on a c350 base, retail $37,275, they offered to give it to me at $36,082. The thing is that it has just over 1,000 miles on it. It is almost $1200 off but I don't like the fact that it has that many miles on it.

Any opinions on the price? Should I get more off because of the miles?

Over 1000 miles is a used car....you should get a much bigger discount for that.

That's what I was thinking, they told me that was the biggest discount they have given on a c350, but this is also the one with the most miles.

I'm all for getting a good deal but with only 1000 miles, that won't fly, especially on a new release car that is selling well, and one with such a low price point in comparison to the rest of their stuff (that's IF it's "new," read next paragraph). They're not going to go clear down to cost for only 1000 miles. I'd say a fair deal is invoice or $500 below with NO other fees or $1000 below plus dealer prep (again, if it's still legally NEW).

The state matters somewhat too. For example, here in Colorado they changed the law and raised the miles a "new" car can have quite a bit. I don't know the exact number but it is over 1000. Where that matters most is if the car has been titled to anyone, including the dealer, or if it's still legally a new car. If it's been titled to the dealer, no biggie except the warranty started. If it truly is used and was titled to a real customer, then yes, I would AGREE with MBTex and say go for the throat.

CORRECTION: Earlier in this thread I called package 320 the P2 package but 320 is the multimedia package.

New or used doesn't matter (as far as deal making anyway) as long as the dealer wants to sell the car and can't sell it for more than you are offering.

If they haven't taken title yet (which they probably haven't) you probably might get a good deal just so they can avoid doing so.

invoice on these cars is MSRP-destination charge x .93...in other words, 7% off of MSRP-desination charge. As for the C350 w/ 1200 miles on it, assuming it's only been driven as test drives and/or manager demo, yes, it has been used, but no, it is not a technically a USED car, since it has not been titled yet. I worked in sales at 2 Benz dealerships here in Mass for a total of about 4 years, and I recall selling a demo SLK350 right after they had come out, so it was deemed a "hot" commodity, just like the C Classes are now. The car had about 2K on it, and it was a launch edition car...if my memory serves me correctly, we took off $2500. Keep in mind that if you can get an extra $1000 off the car (above and beyond how much you can get off one w/ virtually zero miles on it), simply because it has 1000 miles on it, IMO that's not a bad deal, but ONLY if it's the car you want. Don't settle for a car simply to save $1000.

I'll third that and add to make sure you get the options you wanted too. I got an incredible deal on the VW Touareg V10 I bought last June but notice I'm sniffing around here again because there are a couple of features it lacks and now that the new-ness has worn off, it's starting to bug me a little.

I hate to say it but I for one do not like cars that have been driven as demo/test car. 1000 miles is a lot of miles on a car. The break in period according to MB is 1000 miles on this car. You have no idea how bad the car have been driven during the 1000 miles. $1200 is a lot but I got mine at $750 off MSRP with 5 miles on it and little bit of negotiation. For $500 more, I would not settle for 995 additional miles.

I got a $2,350 discount off of MSRP (see figures below). Ordered it on 8/29/07. Took delivery on 9/27/07. I did not trade in a car. Paid cash for it. Loving it!

Black with Black MB Tex. I wasn't sure about the MB Tex before it arrived. I was afraid I would regret it since I have always had cars with leather. But I really like the MB Tex interior now and glad I saved the $1,550 on leather). I'm also glad I stuck with the standard moonroof instead of getting the Panorama roof, plus I saved $1,000 by not buying that option. I like the sliding shade that comes with the standard moonroof. When I saw a Panorama roof at the dealer after I got my car, I did not like the roller shade that comes with the Panorama roof).

Ha ha I'll second this one. That car is most likely the demo car and I know for a fact those cars are flogged around. With the break in period being 1k miles and as it states in the owners manual not to go over 65 mph...well I'm sure you get the idea. Also...MB demo cars are always screwy, the ones I have seen come in at my dealership are always missing parts of options packages, like they hadn't decided yet what to include in the packages at the time of build, and you are most likely getting a real early build that could result in problems down the road. It is under warranty though, you can always get it fixed, but why take a chance if you know from the start its not going to be good. They should really just send the demo cars back to MB and not sell them.

It is up to you, but I think that I woud have a hard time buying a new car with a 1,000 miles on it unless the discount was substantial. I had an opportunity for one before I ordered and I actually ended up with a better deal on a new one. The only drawback, and it is a big one, is that I have had to wait.

I think that sounds like a good deal. It's already over $1800 off sticker and you have to consider that 4Matic just recently came out and that car you want has P2, which isn't as common on the C300. If it was a regular base C300 with only P2 and no MM Package, that's a different story. But I think for those options, that is a very good deal. Maybe ask for $39K even.

Well pmb600 called it! I wanted $39,000 plus the iPod kit thrown in and the dealer went for it. We signed the peperwork and its a done deal! Expecting delivery in December sometime.

So I live in California, and my dealer said that because they're new and are very popular(I have the C350), so they put like 4k more on top of the sticker price.
So I got it for $4,3650 out the door.
I didin't order it, I just went in and drove away one of the cars they already have in stock.

Shopped northern nj dealers. several (4 or 5) had multiple c's in stock. I mean mutliple c300, c3004matic, c350 in stock. both lux and sport. Not a glut by any means, but no need to special order. With that said, I only got about $1400 off msrp of 40940. I pro'lly could've done better, but no one would give an internet quote or a phone quote, only in person. At the second dealer I found a guy I liked, with exact in stock, low pressure, etc. so I bought. That, and I've had a spate of bad luck recently with work and family obligations (one 16 mo. old, one in the oven, wife just started a new job) so time has recently been hard to come by. More time and I bet I would've gotten to 1000 over msrp. They all were not giving anywhere near invoice, however.

With that said, tonight scored a black c300 sport 4 matic, Pano, MM, P1, Ipod for $39575. Car is being prepped, and tinted once I get the quote.

In northern NJ, I bought from Catena in Union. Car was in stock at their Edison lot. They had a nice white p2/mm/pano/ipod in stock at union, my second choice, I just liked the black better. They also had plenty of red, paladium, iridium and steel grey in stock. Also, Prestige in Paramus must have had about 2 doz. in sport 4matics in stock (not to mention plain c300's and c350s), and wish I had gotten there, but since in NJ bergen county is a state away from Essex county, well, it just didn't happen. Morristown MB had about 405 c300 4matics in stock. Globe, a small outfit, only 2or 3 c300 4matics. Note that I only looked at 300 4matics, so while I saw the plain c300's and 350's, didn't pay too much attention other than to note plenty of them too.

That's the sepc i'm probably getting. C300, 4matic sport, MM, P1, Pano, iPod. Got a quote for this without the Pano for 38k, just debating P2 for the xenons. Can anyone comment on the P1 lights? I'm coming from the BMW xenon world to MB for the first time. Is the P1 lighting they yellowish or are they whiter light? A picture at night of someone with P1 would be great if possible.

The P1 lights aren't horrible, they are definately whiter, even on my W203 C-Class. They are all projector style now. I would definately go for the P2 though, the bi-xenon make the car look awesome.

Once you've had Xenons you won't want to go back. Stick with the Xenons, you'll be happier. To settle your doubt, test drive the P1 vs. the P2 at night. That will make up your mind quick.:y

There is a thread here titled, "W204 Owners - Post how much you paid for it" that covers exactly what you are looking for.

From my observations, cars with MM package are harder to negotiate down. The average $ off seems to be around $2000, but I could be mistaken.

Personally, I was trying to get $2000 off MSRP, but settled for $1000 off MSRP plus a set of winter tires including mounting which I priced out at about ~$850, so all said and done I was getting close to what I wanted.

From what I read and experienced in our neck of the woods - right now you can't hardly get anything off of MSRP. When I asked, the salesman instead tried to steer us toward the E350 since its the last model year and they have incentives on them. But he wouldn't budge on the C-class. Especially if you want MM on it. They had plenty of non-MM cars in stock, but the MM (and also the panarama) is on constraint. If you ordered a car now, you probably won't get it until Mid-Jan or early Feb.

With those types of wait times and the fact that the C-class is so popular right now, most people are glad to just pay MSRP. More power to those that were able to talk the dealership down below MSRP.

Lot of factors go into how much you can get off of a car. If the car is in dealer inventory already then chances are you will get more off of the car than if you had to order it or if the dealership had to trade for it. Common discounts seem to be $1500 for a $40's car and then you work your way down from there. The more options on a car the higher the price, the higher the price the more money the dealership makes and therefore the more money they have to knock off. I can't believe anyone would get a price lower than M.S.R.P. its too in demand at the moment, like the other poster said, if you don't want to pay the price theres a good chance the next guy walking through their door will so they aren't going to want to lose too much money on a car. They do how ever want your business and as long as you don't insult them with some crazy low discount, they will work with you. A real deal is only a deal in the mind of the person thats paying for it, so if your happy thats all that really matters.:y

I think what's happening is the rest of the world subsidises the great deals that are on offer in the US, it sucks.

Don't forget, however, that at a base level many dealers may want to come down to cinch the sale if for no other reason than for future dealer allocation. That is, if MB dealers are like other auto dealers, and if the c-class continues to be hot, then for the first few months dealers may be motivated to sell c-classes as present sales establish greater future allocation of cars which are otherwise in limited supply from the manufcaturer. In more plain terms, sell 10 this month, while dealer next county over sells only 5, and the higher volume dealer will get more cars in future than lower volume selling dealer. Not that this will necessarily get you a low price, but it may sway a dealer on the cusp?

Finally made the jump. Picking up the car tomorrow. C300 4matic Sport, P2, MM, Pano, Ipod, and Teleaid. $40,440, $2500 off msrp.

Two dealers, separated by one week, differently owned, two counties apart in nj, both refused to go below $39,650 on the car itself (c300sport 4 matic, black on black mbtex, p1, mmc, pano, ipod), equates to $1,500 over invoice or $1300 off msrp. Each one I had to fight down, the first (when I made my post last week but he ended up being a liar about it being in stock) said his manager set a floor on these cars, the second said that a mb rep had come the week earlier and was upset with them for taking too much off the msrp. And these comments were'nt made early, but only after several of the trips to the maanager, the manager coming out at least once to work me over, and me making serious threats to walk for another dealer. This is Jersey, and MBUSA is headquartered here, so wonder if any of this is coordinated. Likely just a concidence, but wondering.

And I'm surpirsed at elsewhere, but I ended physically goign to 4 dealers (only talked price with two however), and each had multiple c300 and c350's in stock. The dealer that lied about inventory was limited specific to my color and options choice, coulda had it that day in two or three other colors, the second dealer was a walk-up and they had in stock right then. And, its not for these cars moving as the first aforementioned dealer when I first went had three in the showroom and 6 on the lot, 5 days later when went to "pick-up" car at prearranged day, had changed the three on floor with two different and only had 3 of the 6 on the lot the same, but had restocked with maybe an additional two. its hard to tell, but noticed differences in the easy to spot colors (white, red, steel grey). Feel for all those in locals where special orders are still occuring.

No one in the nyc/nj area should be waiting for one. There are alot in stock in the area unless it's a very specific combo like mars red with p2 and pano only. If it's silver, grey, black, or white they have a multitude of combos in stock. Dealers are quoting great prices for some because they're delivering in January/Feb when prices will be lower than what we see today. In two months time that deal that was negotiated today will not seem like such a great deal in January.

The only dealership actually owned by MBUSA corporate is MB of Manhattan, all the others are independently owned.

I also have the ipod interface and teleaid. Don't think you have those options listed in your previous post. Dealer threw in the all weather mats, some key chains and a nice teddy bear for my baby. We took delivery on Saturday. :y

I am in that area and am still waiting for my black C300 luxury 4 matic with leather interior and panorama roof. Also has P2 and MM. I figured the leather was the reason for the delay.

Actually, it probably is. I don't see many C's on lots with leather, and you're getting it pretty loaded. Have you called around to other dealers to see if they have stock? I think most dealers will match a competitors price if they have it on the lot.

Well I ordered back in August and what I wanted was not available at that time. I went to several dealers then... I already paid the deposit (which was quite high in my opinion) to this one dealer which he says is non refundable... :( He felt it would be hard to sell a car with all my options in it so that's why the refund was non refundable. I don't like his reasoning but what can you do. So there's no point really trying to check other dealers at this point since the deposit is already down.
So I wait....

Dealers in my area (Seattle) haven't charged "dealer prep" in decades. State sales tax, license fee and that's it. No ad fee. Of course, they are getting MSRP.

of course you can back up, but make sure you get it on writting, I place an order on C350 with panp, mm, p2, 18" wheels, metalic paint and leather int. I back up of the deal because I didn't like the air reflector of the pano and I got my $3000.00 deposit back. :)

P2 head light washers? in California????? rear sun shade??? I never use it on my BMW, Xenons I like but it's cheaper update it on my own, that is my opinion of course :zoom:

I am in Vaughan Ontario and I am leasing a C350 with MM and down payment was freight and PDI plus 4K all together about 6500 Down and the payments are 780.00 a month and 6 months wait for the C350.

I talked to the dealer and he says that they do not do any deals, because so many people want this car.

Did I pay too much, and am I waiting to long?

How long is the lease? What's the mileage allowance? Options aside from MM? 4Matic? Premium pkg? Metallic paint? Leather? Pano? Keyless-Go? Is $780/month tax-in?

Not really odd, C-Class with leather are rarely ordered for the lot. Most customers are not willing to spend $1500 on leather when the MB Tex is such a good imitation.

They aren't discounting cars much because they are selling so well. From what I have seen on here for a 40k car a discount of 1.5k-2k is normal. You can get extras thrown in though, lip spoilers, floor mats, grills, things of that nature.

(If your used to the w203 discounts you won't find them on the w204. The outgoing w203's at my dealership were discounted 10k without haggling before the w204's even came out)

I would say that you are pushing it a little esecially in So cal. I would definately say for you to try an get them that low but it will take a lot of work. You would need to have a check ready to go and say that you want them to give you the best price. If they can't do it then go to anther place and see if they can beat it.

I get CAN$2,000 off list plus some discounted on rim/tires insurance package that will replace any tires or wheels for free if needed.
I'm still waiting for the rubber floor mat and first aid kit which is backorder.

I know Canadian spec car are selling more expensive than the US spec car but Canadian spec car have more std options than the US spec car.
have a look at the www.mercedes-benz.ca and price it with the options. A lot of the options is std in Canada but in States, those are part of the packages.

Bluetooth work with Bell mobility Canada Blackberry but I cannot transfer the address book.

I found out the Blackberry from Rogers Canada can transfer the address book to the MB bluetooth.

For winter driving (which I got the car on Dec 1/08) ...I changed the OEM Michellin tires all seasons tires to to Pirelli 225/45/17 winter 210 sottozeros with S class alloy wheels for less money than the dealer installed option. ($900 less with taxes).
The original Michellin Tires is awesome handling...but I found the Pirelli winter 210 Sottozeros is pretty good too in snow and wet traction...except some noise (very faint and minor road noise from the tires).
The original OEM tires sit in my garage until spring.

Today got some snow on the ground and took it for a spin with winter tires. Pirelli holding well with snow and ice and on the highway pretty good handling too. Can't go any faster than 150Km/h since Ontario Province Police will confiscate any car and detain for 7 days with $2,000 fine for anyone caught doing 50 KM/h over the posted speed limit. :eek:

will bring the c300 to the race track in the summer and test it out.

Hello fellow C300 owners. I was in the dealership today and got an eye out for White c300 with P1 and media package. They wanted 40,895.00 I asked for 39,400. Is that a reasonable offered? Or can I go lower? Thanks

I've heard there's some behind the scenes stuff going on at Barrier Merc that may end the outrageous sales practices soon. Aparently they know they're loosing a good chunk of business to Phil Smart. Don't bother with Merc of Lynnwood ... I half suspect they're owned by Barrier too ... as they're playing the same outrageous mark up games.

If you looked closely at that lease deal you would've noticed they were trying to charge you .00469 (or higher) as a money factor. I got the same quote and they wouldn't budge even after I told them I was buying a car from Phil that afternoon.

Plus Barrier just has crap for inventory.

Went to Phil. They still weren't discounting the car, but they charged me cost for dealer swap transport and gave me top dollar on trade-in to compensate. I've heard from a few people that they're starting to take some money off the C. They had much better inventory, and I'm hearing that's still the case.

They told me ... and I don't know how true this is, it was just said in conversation ... that MBUSA determined inventory on the new C based on how many W203's each dealer cleared out. Phil supposedly cleared out a ton more than Barrier and that's why they're sitting with more cars to sell.

I really really really love Barrier Audi, but man, next Merc I buy (if there is one) I'll give them one shot to see if they've cleaned up their act. And then it'll be off to Phil Smart again. Dealing with them was wonderful.

I am looking to lease a c class. How much would it be a month for a c300 w/auto, c300 w/ auto and mm pack, base c350, and c350 w/ mm pack; all with metallic paint. I am able to recieve an employee discount of 12.5% off msrp. Also, what kind of money factors should I be looking at w/ trans credit score of 707 and what kind of residual should I be seeing. Maybe he traded in a car worth more than $37,000 in which case his taxes are nada, zip, zilch, etc. Or he could well live in a state where there are no sales taxes so maybe all he got was the $1,300 off. If he did get "around"$1,300 off, it's an OK deal, not a GREAT deal. I've heard of others getting $1,800 off.

It seems that so many on here think that their high tax rate applies to everyone when in fact, it often does not.

I think he meant $2K off MRSP. The only ones I know that get "It at cost" are friends and family at most dealerships. By Cost I mean Invoice less the dealer holdback. As the guy above ^^^ pointed out, nobody is going to LOSS money on ANY car no matter HOW many you may have bought from him in the past. It's not like he's gonna make it up in volume... I call BS on the original claim. :bs:

OK, this starts to make more sense. the new car less the $18K for the trade in yields a lower "taxable" event than a straight out purchase. There anywhere from $400 to $1,040 difference in final value (3% tax first and 8% later). Drop another $1K deposit on top of that and your right there where most others are. Probably still a good deal though not the "barn burner" some had thought had occurred. The devil really IS in the details sometimes. Thanks for the clarifications.

It is a year end sales event from that specific MB dealership to give out free maintenance.

I can only go to that one dealer for all the free services including services A and services B for the first 4 years or 50K miles. Since the dealer is only 15 miles from where I am and it will also provided a loaner, going to that one dealer is not a big deal.

So with my $500 Fleet Employee Discount, $1200 off from MSRP and free maintenance ($1300 value), I am quite happy with the deal. Since the dealer is rushing all orders in before end of the year, our C will be at the dealership before the new year. :zoom:

woah, I didn't even know that maintenance wasn't free already....BMW's are so I guess that's why I automatically assumed MB would be. You think the dollar amount of total maintenance a c300 sport will need over the course of four years is only about $1300?

I can't imagine that deal would also cover brake services, they would be insane to do that...

Free A and B services does make sense as a promotion I guess because in reality that isn't costing them that much. A and B services are basically oil plus labor. If they are including brakes though, that would be about $1000 for pads and rotors all around.

Not a bad idea if you put a lot of miles on your cars or plan to keep it for a while. If you plan to keep it past 4 years or 50,000 miles I would highly recommend the Mercedes extended warranty. The $1500 or so will probably pay off in the future or at least make it easier for you to sell it privately later.

Depends what you think free service includes. My '01 C320 had free service for the first four years and I did not reach 50K miles during that time.

Regular service based on today's car:

Three engine oil & filter changes, each 13K miles. Mobil 1 5W40 EP
One trans fluid & filter at 39K miles
Annual cabin air filter change
Wiper blades when needed
Brake fluid change every other year

You supply the dealer's charges if you were paying.

Brake pads all around at around at 40-45K miles on your nickel, discs not required. Clutch parts, if you have one, on you.

Theoretically, yes. A lot of owners will be uncomfortable with 13K mile oil changes and will perhaps change at the midpoint. My experience with the cabin air filter is that they have to be checked more often because (based on my W203) they get pretty dirty which slows down airflow which could effect AC operation in the hot months. I bought my engine and cabin air filters online and saved a bundle, changing them on condition versus time or mileage. My dealer tech told me that observing the factory recommendation on engine air filter changes can result in damage to the mass air flow sensor because of dirt getting through. Out of warranty, this is an expensive fix.

As to brakes, usually it's a disk change every other pad change. I was amazed that my C320's pads wore out front and rear at the same mileage (44000) and when I changed them myself (bought online) , it was obvious that the brake disks did not need changing. And, BTW my driving style is not one that tries to conserve brakes or tires, particularly.

Anyway, brakes are never a warranty item so whenever they need pads, you pay.

At my dealer, the lowest hourly service rate is $80 and the top is well over $100 so anything you can do yourself is money in your pocket. And, you are not required to let them do ANYTHING as long as records are kept and you don't screw anything up.

My W203 coupe was about 33k out the door in 2002, and then I had to beef up the suspension, brakes etc. and only a 4 banger.

The dollar is worth 1/2 it was in 2002, hence MBZ is getting paid only 1/2.

So, where is the W204 mfg?
I'd take the European delivery option, which I beleive is 8 % off or it used to be.

I did get free maint. though which really paid off, as I could drop it at the dealer for anything without any fear I'd get hit with a bill.

80 an hour at the dealer? wow it's double that here in the bay area.
1000 for brakes? Wow.
I did mine (AMG) for $300 in parts, and an hour of my time,
including ceramic pads which last much longer than the stock ones.

I think the car is well priced, even after optional equipment is factored in. But the advertised base price is a sham because there are no cars built at that price. For example, my C300 Luxury's real base price was $33475 with no options. Either the "Luxury" or "Sport" package is mandatory (at a price) to build the things. It's like saying, "Oh, you wanted wheels, seats and windows? Well, then, this is the price...."

The artificial base number is just to compete with BMW, nothing more. The drilled rotors (actually not drilled since the holes are cast in) are only on the Sport version which BTW means a black interior. And so on.

To get a real feel for the cost, go to mbusa.com, click on "build your own" and spec it out they way you may want it. The final before T&L numbers have been negotiable in some parts of the country.

I am looking to lease a c300 sport and I am thinking about doing a one-pay lease to avoid the finance charge on atleast the depreciated amount. I have heard that if you do the one-pay lease w/ MBfinance that you get a .00110 discount on the MF for the remaining part of the lease that still incurs a finance charge (the residual amount).

It seems kinda foolish for me to pay $22k to lease a car for four years when I can just buy that exact same car outright for $39k ($36k + taxes)....but the bottom line is that I believe that if I go to sell this car four years later (imagine selling a 2003 c240 w/ 60k miles now..kbb gives trade-in as $14k) I wouldn't get more than $17k for it (so $39k - $17k i expect = $22k that I am paying upfront to lease it)...and ofcourse this doesn't even account for the higher time value of money effect on the $39k vs the $22k simply because its a larger amount so will have a larger dollar figure.

How about $67,000 after Taxes for a locally assembeled model! :) And no maint. No nothing. Oh yeah did i mention it's a C200 Kompressor too? :)

Hmmm....well a stripped model still isn't bad, but yeh, I went to the MBUSA site, and I see, you can only order most options as packages.
Only 3 packages to choose from which sux.
And the dumass salesguy who told me leather was included was wrong.
It's 1550 I think.
So, my car, with leather, pano, and an ipod kit, quickly went to 35K before tax and license, so I'd be looking at 40K out the door with very little options.
Xenon's can only be had with some nearly 3 grand package, and the
1st level package comes with a lot of stuff that was free on my current car.
I like the garage door opener and the rain sensing wipers (wish they had an adjustment) but I'm not paying a grand for it.

Guess I'll be keeping my Coupey for a while.

I guess I'd be cool with that it's just last time I got a car it was s cheap 20k japanese sedan, and I got $2000 off plus extended warranty.

From what I've read, most people have received about $2000 off MSRP for their car on average.

$2110 off MSRP, Fletcher Jones Fremont. Fletcher Jones do their sales by volume with small profit. Salesman told me the first shipment of cars or the ones in the lot now are from Germany, next shipment in Jan 2008 will be from South Africa. I saw it mentioned somewhere in the forum too.

visited a dealership over the weekend. The dealer I spoke to told me that the cars are only port from South Africa but build in germany. This makes no sense to me....

Would the south africa built car have different starting letter on the VIN?

Yes the South African cars should have a different VIN number. The Mercedes built in the USA all have a different number too.

So what are your guys opinion on the South African built cars?
Do you see no issue in getting one of those? Sorta wanted my Mercedes Benz to come from Germany. I have one marked for me coming in early February, and now that I hear I this I imagine it is from South Africa too.

I just got my C that arrived to the dealership last week. It is form Germany.

When the salesperson showed me the MB inventory system when I picked mine, all the cars stated specifically where they come from. There were three cars exactly my specs and I was able to pick the one from Germany.

Are 4Matic cars built in Germany and non 4Matics built in South Africa?

What are the extra fees you typically see on leases?

What is MB acquisition fee usually? $795? Do they roll that into the total lease financing, or require you pay that separately up front?

Of course I know about registration/title, so that is given.

Is there any other surpriser on a lease besides those? I understand sales tax is on the down payment and monthly payment, so prepared for that.

Just want to make sure I'm not forgetting a fee of some kind! :)

What dealer was this? I went to autobahn (Belmont) yesterday and got a really bad experience from one of the sales guy there. So im looking for another dealer to work with. help..

MB dealers seem to be hit or miss, i went to the one on Cherry Hill NJ. The sales person there, who actually was a friend of my family, acted like it was the hottest car in the last 10 years. he told me he would only give me $500 off because he knew me, this was the end of October, and believe it or not, he hasn't changed his tune yet. its crazy. not to mention he kept rubbing it in my face, that they wouldn't give me a loaner when i was in for service unless i bought from that dealership. i don't know about the rest of you, when i finally pull the trigger on a deal for a C-class i expect 2000-2500 off msrp period.

Sounds half like my dealer! Stupid me fell for it. No, actually I got a couple thousand off the car. However, like you I got approx. $3000 lower than KBB on the trade in. Yes, I got a 300, but honestly they might be a little limited, but you don't need to pay MSRP.

Since there is only one Seattle dealer, Phil Smart MB, that's easy. They have delivered close to one hundred W204s which are now in short supply. I doubt that any discounts are available. I paid retail.

I think the California story is false because a friend who is a dealer manager told me that California MB sales are way down.

There is a backend rebate back to the sales person at the end of the month or year depending on how he/she get compensate. The C300 or C350 in Canada is 9 % markup not incl other backend rebate from manufacturer and will be great if you can get 4% of MSRP. That what I got ...4% of MSRP in Nov 2007 but then someone I knew got even better 5% of MSRP in Jan 2008.

My C300 MSRP was $36,175 and got it for $34,000 ($300 over invoice).

its finally here..bought C300 4MATIC Black on Black with Navi and Mettalic Paint early january . was ordered last week of january and built around third week of March. salesman called and said its here about a 2 weeks early... due for pick up tuesday... went to check the car yesterday and looked at the vin number.. found out it was made in there Bremen plant...i also checked out 4 c300's and c350's and they all have an " F " as there 11th digit..the dealer is on Broadway and ash st.( near granville)..

This is Exciting.................cant wait

i did not take any of the packages they are offering like paint protection($499)or $750 for both paint and leather seats protection. i thought they are a bit too pricey. i booked for a paint protection at a local shop for $125 plus taxes. $55 for leather seat protection. they did my previous car and its still looks good.

hopefully my salesman will throw in a few more freebies on tuesday. he says he will provide me with winter mats...should i ask for more? ..o well better than nothing..hehehe:)
