Automobile Mag: C350 Stomps 335i
Ok, so it didn't stomp the 335i especially in the standing start acceleration tests (where the 2008 C350 really got walloped) but it did beat the 335i in one interesting test category in this month's Automobile Magazine. The C350 beat the 335i from 30 to 70 (6.4 sec vs. 6.5 sec). It does not say top gear but it was a 6-speed vs. an automatic. And they tied in the left handed skidpad both pulling a sweet .94g's. Not as bad as you would think. But sadly, the C350 only got a 14.9 @ 97 in the 1/4 and 6.5 sec.0 to 60 which is WAY off the 2006/2007 cars and way-way behind the 335i. But best of all, the 335i 6-speed Euro-spec sedan they tested ran the exact same 1/4 mile as my Speed Innovations tuned C350 automatic so there is hope for catching the vaunted twin-turbo Beamer with the little naturally aspirated C-Class! Go MB, go.

still waiting on ways to up the HP on the NEW 350
anyone? anyone? |
Kleeman has a set of headers out for the W204 3.5L and Remus has a dual cat-back for the new C350. And I bet the SI ECU programming would work too--not sure on that though. All that would get you close or over 300bhp. H*ll, stock C350's dyno out at about 288bhp right off the show room floor.

We have an exhaust for the new W204, a dual system which coupled with a few engine mods (air intakes, etc) should yield pretty good performance gains, around 5 to 7hp.

is this exhaust a quad?
what are we looking at for price? so a new exhaust, air intake, will = 7hp gain? I think getting close to 300 is gonna be tough without a chip or something I have not driven the 350 yet, how would you say will it compare to a Volvo C70 hp turbo coupe? (238hp) This is my current get around car and is a lot of fun to drive thanks for your input! :) |

Remember, the C350 stock has dyno'd at 288bhp so getting another 12bhp is all it takes to get to 300. I would think that a chip, filters, and exhaust ought to do it. |
Regarding 30-70 times; automatics always win over manuals in those tests for one really odd-ball reason. They let the automatics downshift, but they keep the manuals in whatever gear will cover that entire range; usually top gear. Actually, that the C350 only beat it by 0.1 sec is indictive of just how fast the 335 really is in a straight line. Typically in those tests autos are a good 2-3 sec faster because they've dropped down 2 or 3 gears while the manual is lugging along in 4th or 5th.
After that article, I'm curious to see where the CTS-V is going to be priced. I came close to buying the 1st gen until all the rear diff problems came up, and then they never put an auto in it. I'm usually a manual shift kind of guy, but it seems superflous with a 400hp 4 door. |
i hear ya
but the BMW is just ugly, small turbos = oil burning / consumption / future problems for longevity/ $50,000 for a 3 series?? don't get me wrong on paper it is sick, but .... :nix: |
335 can be also moded to get extra 30hp. So let's wait for a solution from MB. Somebody mentioned that 09 C350 will have 306hp stock.

^^ nice sig. Mag racing is always fun times. :smash:
The BMW N54 TT I-6 responds really well to mods (obviously). They can easily be modded to slap E39 M5's around. Anyone have a dyno sheet for a 350 motor in horsepower & not euro ? A 335will dyno around 260 - 275 whp stock. They were underrated at 300hp :naughty:. I'd guess that a 350 will dyno around 240whp if its lucky. The direct injection V6's from other manufacturers already produce in excess of 300hp from ~3.5L and they can't keep up with the TT I-6, so M-B powertrain guys may need to do something special if they want to seriously compete w/ a N54 in terms of power and torque. |

Manufacturer's claim: Horsepower 272 Hp at 6000 rev/min Torque 350 Nm a 2400 rev/min Actual data: Horsepower 287.5 Hp a 6225 rev/min Torque 360.7 Nm a 4005 rev/min. With Supersprint exhaust: Horsepower 298 Hp at 6255 rev/min Torque 368.9 Nm at 4040 rev/min. http://www.supersprint.com/grafici/84523.jpg |
Ya, I saw that sheet, but I don't want to read Kilowatts and Newton meters. I'm looking for a dyno chart that was recorded using Horsepower and Torque.

I removed the rear mufflers from my C350 (inserting straight pipes instead). I like the effect. It sounds better to me.
The C350 alteady has a direct cold air intake system. Any aftermarket re-plumb of the intake system would be a total scam. The only change that could be made to increase the air flow would be to change the filter elements to a less restrictive (and less protective) material. However, such a change would produce less than one hp increase. TEAShea from Nebraska |
Is it possible that if MB raises the 09 c350 to 306 hp, we 08 c350 can upgrade whatever change they do and have it at 306 hp with OEM parts??

It looks like an acura, gets worse mileage than ever before, has a pretty disappointing interior, and oh, even though it costs 40K, its not all that quick. |

Whoever think the current 350 series line of cars are slow, seriously IMO needs their heads examined. It is plenty fast in its own right. The benz was never made to be like a BMW. I still don't understand why people don't get that simple fact. MBZ is not equal to BMW, period. 268hp from a car that gives you around 30mpg(once its fully broken in around 10K miles) is pretty damn good IMO. What other car will give you that? |

I do not agree with MB Fanatic. MB cars were always better and faster than BMW. (For example SLK is much faster than Z4, SLK has more luxury options, SLK handles better than Z4, SLK looks much beter than any roadster, so why C can't be fsater than 335?) Having 300+hp is standard for any entry level luxury sedan now. Take for example G37, or CTS. Certainly MB marketing guys didn't do homework for analyzing competitions. I do not believe that MB had any problem in delivering a new engine on time. MB also offers low power engine and diesels for people who care about fuel consumption. Anyway MB has a good lesson of low sales number for new C in US. Then more we will critique new C then more chance to get better cars from MB.
