Tires

<<Mine came with ContiProContact while my cousin's came with Michelin Pilot Exalto>>

Since I switched my C300 to 18's, I have the four ContiProContact 17s it came with stacked up on my garage floor and have them listed in the local Craigslist at $400. They can be bought from Tire Rack for $537 (includes freight) so $400 seems reasonable.

Sure enough, some bottom-feeder answered the ad tonight offering $300. I declined.

I'm hoping whatever tires come with this car will be good in the snow. We got 4Matic but without the proper tires that means nothing. Are the Conti's or Michelins better in the snow?

I would not bet on either of the tyres being good on snow. Winter tyres are always recommended.

Yes, the only answer in real snow country is dedicated winter tires. All of the OEM tires are too wide and not tall enough to be good in snow, regardless of the tread pattern. This is another issue with this continuous trend toward wider, lower profile tires as OEM.

In the EU, my car [a C300 Lux, aka C280 Elegance] would have 205/55x16s, and a fighting chance in light snow...not here, with 225/45x17s as standard. Even then, dedicated snow tires are best...no substitute if you have real snow very often.

Around here [Portland OR], everybody thinks they need AWD and studded tires, when we might see snow 2-4 times a year....the other extreme of cluelessness. The real danger here is the twice-annual ice storms, when nothing should move, but everybody tries, anyway....with tragi-comic results.

I love it when I hear towns being shutdown because of 3 inches of snow. People are so unprepared, and just completely clueless about what they should do.

I checked, they are Michelin Pilots.

I also took them to the tire shop to register for the road hazard and lifetime balancing program and they charged $155 for it. They also said the front tires were $190 each and the rear tires were $215 each.

17" amg rims = michellins
18" amg rims = continentals

simple as that, no need for individual posts

C300 Sport/Palladium Silver on Black/P2
C300 Sport 17-inch with l ContiProContact . I'm pretty ok with that. Maybe they'll wear better, 400 versus 300.

Toyota and planning to get a Sport C300, White, Manual, 18" AMG rims, MM, HK Sound.
Has anybody tried to choose the tires? i.e. maybe pay a bit more to get the best ones or something. Or is this IMPOSSIBLE?

Choosing which ones come on it out of the factory is probably difficult since the factory just puts whatever tires on that they have for that batch of cars.

I see no reason, though, why the dealer couldn't swap them out for you before you take delivery.
