How to wash your new c class
I am guessing that I should never take it to an automatic wash and I should always just handwash it myself...
So... What type of rag do I use? Should I use a microfiber wash mit? What type of soap? Also, to dry, is the best and only good way to avoid swirling in the paint to dry with a leather shammy? My last car I washed about 2-3 times a year and didnt care what it looked like... I would appreciate any benz how to wash tips from u advanced benz owners, thanks! |
Take a look at any of the detailing forums if you really want to worry about it.
How long do you plan to keep the car? And you've got white, you can beat that up pretty bad and nobody'd know ... you'll have to deal with getting road tar off more than anything else. I wash with a real sheep's wool mitt for the car, one bucket soap, one for rinse, and then an old crap mitt for the wheels. Dry with blue waffle weave micro fiber. But I've also been known to get lazy and go through a car wash too (except with my black car). Once a year I get it detailed with a full clay and polish. Have to warn you though, I've never kept a car for more than 3yrs so it's all kind of play time to me. I'm not super perfectionist anal. |
microfiber wash mit. Any specialized car soap will do, just don't use dishwashing liquid unless you know what you're doing.
Use microfiber towels to dry as well. Depending on where you live, you'll also want to wax at least twice a year. |
PS. Always ... always ... move the mitt/towel in straight linear motions to avoid swirls. Never do a daniel-san.

2 bucket method
as stated above, meguires best auto gel shampoo, wet car, soap mit, wash top down, rinsing mit frequently in rinse bucket and hosing off with open end hose no pressure nozzle.Good micro mit, good micro towels. The main thing is protection and care.Go to the detail sponsors and get the proper clay, polish and sealer and wax supplies and you will keep it looking show room
(probably better then show room) have fun with the new car. |

I suggest you use a boar's hair brush to wash it. This hair is soft but will not matt down. The key is to avoid pressing dirt against the paint when you wash it. Lots of water is a big help. I aim a water stream from a hose at the brush while I wash to flush away the dirt the brush loosens. The water also acts as a lubricant. Most scratching occurs during washing and drying.
