How many of you decided to buy an extended warranty thru MB? I'm still mulling it over, I don't pickup my car until next month. It is nice to know that you can buy it anytime in the first year/12K mi at no additional charge, and even after that for a surcharge.

I included two options for yes/no to be more specific. Sorry, if it's not proper etiquette, it's my first poll.

I got the warranty through my lender rather than through MB. It was cheaper, fully transferrable, and I got a .5% rate reduction.

Nice, I hadn't heard of that before. Thanks for the heads up, I'll have to ask my CU if they offer that.

I only keep my cars for 50k miles. One reason is because thats when the standard warranty runs out, but the other reason is for resale. At 50k you still get great resale for the car, so the purchase of the next car isn't such a sticker shock. So there isn't really a choice for me to pick in your poll.

Now if your planing on keeping your car for more than four years, or you drive more than 50k miles in four years, then yes the warranty is a good idea for you. If you have ever seen a MB repair bill for a car that wasn't under warranty, we wouldn't need this thread ha ha.

How'd you manage to have this applied to your Benz? Was that valid when they were part of the same company?

It was actually done prior to me buying the car...but there is someone on these forums that does these contracts at a very good price.

I hadn't thought of that option, good call. Personally, I may only keep it for 5 years, but want to be prepared to keep it longer, maybe 8 or 9 years.

Probably we'll buy, but not until the eleventh hour [360th day] - I plan to do some shopping around among the dealers to get the best price.

Don't get me started on that. I bought it on a Saturday when I picked up the car. Dealership was closed on Sunday. Monday morning I decided I don't need the extended warranty and wanted a refund right away. They tell me I have to wait a few weeks for my refund check AND I have to pay them $150 dollars to cancel because it was entered in their system! They could easily charge me 4000+ for extended warranty, lo-jack, and tire warranty but when it comes to refunding it not even a business day later... they won't give my money back that easily.

Brutal! Maybe file a complaint with the BBB. You can even do it online now.

I remember you talking about this in a different thread. I take it you couldn't get out of the $150 BS fee?

I don't think I can get out of the $150 fee. When I spoke to the finance manager, she was kind of rude about it. MB called me today and said that certain states have cancellation policies for the warranty.. He told me to request a copy of the warranty and see if there's a cancellation fee in the fine print. When I did request a copy from the dealership, she told me they didn't have a copy of the contract. It is done via their computers. So they won't show me any fine print basically. If I did sign any paperwork, they certainly didn't give me a copy of it which makes the situation more annoying.

I'm still waiting on the check from them. So we shall see if they refunded the full amount. I most likely will be filing a complaint somehow but I am just waiting to see how much they refund me before I take action. I just want my money now.

Sorry, but under no circumstances can they brush you off with a "you don't get a written contract, it's in the computer"....that's absurd.

Did I miss it? Who are these guys? Which dealer?

In the USA for the C's and SLK's, pricing is:

+12 months/up to 100,000 total vehicle-accrued miles $2,150
+24 months/up to 100,000 total vehicle-accrued miles $2,680
+36 months/up to 100,000 total vehicle-accrued miles $3,700

I'm considering the 2yr one for $2680. During the negotiations with the dealer, one thing I inquired about when I was having a difficult time getting $2k off the price, was that he include this warranty. He called someone to find out their cost and claims it's about $1900. Sounded a little fishy since in my experience, extended warranties are usually maked up 100% so I was expecting it to cost around ~1350. He didn't bite, but maybe I can get him to sell it to me for $2K when I pick up the car next month.

Yeah, do NOT pay "MSRP" for the extended warranty - lots of dealers will discount this.

Like you, I'm skeptical of that cost figure, but even so, there are substantial savings to be had by doing a little pushing.
