i did this to my car. all it took was a hair dryer and dental floss. it came off very clean, no holes no touch up paint, not even wax was needed and it only took 5 minutes.

i had a friend help me hold the hair dryer while i was using the floss to "saw" off the adhesive that sticks the emblems on the car. its like a gum/putty that comes off pretty easily when its hot. any residue you have left on the car, you can rub off with your thumb. its really simple and the end product is pretty dramatic.

The badges uses a very strong double sided tape -- I've tried extra thick shred resistant dental floss to run behind the badge but it keeps on breaking.

I will probably attempt it again with fishing line.
A hair dryer will help soften the tape and help the removal of the badges.

You will also need some Goof Off or Goo Gone to remove bits of the tape and adhesive that's left on the trunk. After that I use rubbing alcohol to remove the adhesive residue and finish it off with a buffing of wax.

if you put the hair dryer over the badges at an angle for about 30 secs at a time, they come off really easy. take your time with it, it wont come off in one swipe, you have to saw it off little by little, but does come off clean.

i have taken the badges off my old W203. they did it for me at the dealer ship free of charge. i just stopped by and asked them to do it .

took five minutes and looked slick.

at some point i will do the same on my W204.

i have heard that in europe the cars do not have badges on them. is that true?

I think it's the owner's choice when they purchase the car and many take it off.

Here is a Link to a DIY Debadgeing.

Yeah at first I thought why, but the idea has been growing on me. Personally I like the clean look, it's different. And the 'mystery' of it would be a bonus.

Although maybe in a C Class people might think that they removed it so they don't think it's a the 'C'heap Benz...

Solo Job, 10 minutes

Having a friend helps, but I did mine myself with my wife's hairdryer and dental floss. Did it on a 50 degree day too, so if you're concerned about that, don't be. Anyway, hold the hair dryer on the first letter, wait 30 seconds or so, and then slide the floss in on one end and pull back/fro (like a sawing action) until the gum gets hard again, then more hair dryer, then more sawing. A minute per character, and voila! It removed most of the gum with the letter, but some remained. Use your hand to bead the gum up and remove, then use a paper towel with some isopropyl alcohol (you know, the kind from the drug store or grovecery store) to remove any last gum residue.

Easy, quit asking and go do.

I can remember that years ago people in Europe were very reluctant to drive an expensive car as obvious consumption and it was frowned upon. The solution? Have all badges that indicate the model of the car removed.

If I am not mistaken, all German cars come without the badges and only if you want them, do you have to state that in your purchase agreement.

So you have basically three car models, C, E and S-Class. You can fool many people, but if I look inside, I can tell pretty close what model I am seeing.

be careful with the dental floss hairdryer method if you blow hot air too long it can cause ghosting of the letters onto the paint. it happend to me way back when i debadged my subaru.

yea you defintaly dont want to BURN the badges with the hair dryer. it doesnt take much to get the adhesive warm enough to remove, you dont need it scorching hot

that's kinda funny because it holds many truths. I remember a few years ago it was a trend in taiwan for people with s600's to debadge their cars, or rebadge it as 320's and those with 320's would rebadge theirs as 600's. I personally like the clean look of no badges. For another car I had, I debadged everything including the brand logo and filled the holes with bondo and paint. Using dental floss can get very frustrating as it snaps all the time. I have used nothing but fishing line for the past few years and it works much better.

ya, and ppl with M3 will debage or put 323 hoping some unsuspecting punks will go pick a race... real funny stories there.

definitely remove if you have the c300

anybody with c350 should keep it on there, because it makes it look like you just didnt barely squeak into the MB family with the bottom of the line model...

i must say though, c300 looks way more legit than a c230 badge on your car... for how similar they are in power...

considering how many c230's you see out there.. everybody thinks you stepped up to the bigger badder model when they see the c300 badge, even though it is truly bottom of the line for 08', in the US at least...

huh?

debadge if a c300 but not c350? My c300 prolly cost more than many c350's, seeing as it is 4matic and pano, mm, p1, ipod, etc. See, for many, the c300 was the only car we could get cuz of 4matic.

Now, debadging ain't about hiding the identity of a car. Anyone who likes cars and has an interest in them knows its a c-class, and can prolly figure out the differences b/w the c350 and c300 if lthey ook for longer than a minute or so, but debadging ain't about hiding the identity, its about looking better, in my opinion.

Thank you for saying that. What a dumb comment that C300 owners should debadge, who cares if it's the least expensive Mercedes...it's a Mercedes and as long as you enjoy it who cares what people think.

It isn't even the cheapest Mercedes when you think about it.

There actually is an A Class. You just don't see too many of them on the road as they are sold in the US (or at least not marketed).

Debadge your car if you like the look of it. When I pull up to a C300 while in my C350 I feel a bit of superiority for about 1/2 of a second. Then I nod at the guy and say "nice car".

it's a new model, so I don't think we're look at as being cheapskates or "poor".
Those kind of people buy used a Mercedes!

I really like the clean and sleek look of debadging -- less is more!
