I was thisssssss close!
I've been waiting so long, so patiently, and when I finally drove out to the dealer to pick up, I was denied on a technicality! Wow.
I pre-arranged a loan as soon as I got a delivery date. But the car got delayed a few times, and the loan check's expiration date came and went. So I said, "Yessssssss, there goes my loan." But I figured I'd just finance through the dealer when I pick up. Then yesterday when I tried to do so, they tried to charge me 4.5% more than the other loan. I wasn't havin any of that, so I came home, and reapplied for the same loan as before. Now I'm waiting for the check to come, so I can get my %^&*&$^$^$&%^&$*%^*^ car.
Why?

when the loan date on the check expired, why didn't you just call them to reissue it before you went to the dealership? they can easily overnight the check.
when you have a check like that floating on your credit, it may have brought your credit down a bit when you applied for MB financing at the same time.
in any case, it sounds like you have it pretty much taken care of - so lets see some pics when you finally take possession!

I tried, and they told me to reapply for a new loan... =(
Didn't think about that! But in any case hopefully everything will work itself out within a few days. My target date is Wednesday. My check was sent to my office, so maybe tomorrow (Monday) I can get it, and I think I can get out to the dealer within a few days.
And it's true: it'll all be worth it.
p.s. and yes, I know the pics-or-ban rule. =/ I'm on it.

when you had applied for the loan did you do it online or over the phone. The reason i ask is that depending on the company most of them get paid per application. that could be why they told you to re-apply.

The increased rate was quoted to me at the dealership, but they had secured it through Capital One Auto Finance.
My initial loan was also from Capital One. Same source, two vastly different rates. What the f?
And yes, I did it all online: researching for the car, haggling for the car's price, confirming the price, securing a loan, and arranging insurance. The only thing I did offline was making the initial deposit of $1,000.
I pick up the check tomorrow! I think I'll be driving by Wednesday! I can't wait!

Congrats on the car Narky. Out of curiosity, which bay area dealer?

Thanks all...
I got it at Walnut Creek M-B. Great service so far. No hassle, good price, almost pain free. They did try to do me in with their finance rates, but as noted above, I got 3rd party financing, so problem solved. I'd recommend the dealer to others in a heartbeat.
BUT I still haven't taken possession of the vehicle yet, so I'm going to withhold my final judgment until afterwards.
