Hood Alignment

I just notice my hood isn't aligned correctly. Right side i can fit a finger in and left side i cant fit any fingers in. How do i adjust it or should i take it into the dealer to get it fix? Anyone else have this problem?

ManchesterMerc 04-11-2008 01:37 PM

Gaps should be uniform down each side. Take it to Dealer, let them sort it.

Derspeed 04-11-2008 01:42 PM

I am not sure if this is the case on our cars, but there are stoppers under the hood that can be adjusted. I noticed what appeared to be such stoppers under my hood toward the front on each corner sticking up out of the core support area. They are the color of the car. On most cars, you can lower and raise them by twisting them. Other than that, you need to go to the dealership.

thank you guys for the quick reply. i will take it to the dealer today and let ya kno how and why it was like that in the first place

my has the same problem, I try to adjust the hood stoppers, did not work  I have to take it to the dealer :X

same thing happened to me when i first got the car. all i did was slam the hood a little harder lol and it worked

Derspeed 04-11-2008 04:44 PM

Now that I think about it, when I test drove one, the salesman couldn't get the hood to close on both sides.

Hazemonster 04-11-2008 04:57 PM

My hood wasn't latching FROM THE FACTORY. Some lady flagged me down and made a flapping motion with her hand. When I got home and checked it, I noticed that the right side wasn't even latched!!!

I had to turn the latch to make it "catch" when the hood closed.

If you are unsure...take it to the dealer. I had owned the car for a good 3 weeks before I even found this out.

w204_c300 04-11-2008 07:03 PM

i had the car for one week hahaah and i guess i was babying it by lookin all over for tiny details. so i went to the dealer and they said that since its a dual latch u have to slam it.. problem solved ahha now my gaps are even onces again

mac911 04-11-2008 08:04 PM

Yep, once it gets below the resistance point you basically have to push the hood down, and it's loud, and it then latches.

theraj2 04-11-2008 09:59 PM

yep, i took mine in for the same reason... appearently i wasnt closing it right, it must be closed evenly(from the middle) and at a pretty decent amount of presure is needed.

So just open her up, and close it from the middle, a little hard.

I fixed my last night, I just tweaked a little bit :y

When I bought mine- the dealer told me you have to slam the hood to close it. He said there are 4 latches on this hood and if you don't slam it (btw which I was always told not to do on any car) the hood won't close all the way. Just make sure nothing is obstructing before you close it.

itcrashed 04-12-2008 12:31 PM

when i took delivery of my car, i noticed the right side of the hood was a bit higher than the left side. but because i constantly read this forum, i knew to expect it - in fact, i had my mental checklist of items to check from other experiences on this forum. so when i took delivery, i popped the hood, and slammed it down a bit harder than i normally would...and then it was in perfect alignment. im sure as things loosen up a bit it won't need as much force to latch.

Hazemonster 04-14-2008 02:22 PM

I "adjusted" the right side....and I don't have to slam it at all...just drop it normally. I don't like the idea of having to SLAM the hood of a $40K car!

Even slamming wouldn't have helped mine...the latch needed adjustment with a wrench.

I think it's just utterly stupefying that we're even having this discussion.

Are these the adjustment knobs?

I tried turning it, but it just won't budge, even if I grip it with a wrench.

Those adjustment knobs appear to be fixed because I couldn't adjust mine either.

I think my headlight is not alined properly? My hood is unifrom with the body, but around the headlights on the passenger side I can easily fit in a finger, where I can not on the driver side? What gives?

Hmm... so how do I adjust the hood height then? The passenger side seems somewhat higher than the driver side. And when the hood is closed and I press down on it on the passenger side, it does come down a bit more before it hits this adjustment knob, but it bounces right back up when I take the hand off.

exterior fit and finish on this car isnt very good. Panel gaps and everything are quite big in comparison to my other cars. I just live with it.

Even after you loosened the locknut underneath which is in plain view?

Doh!

I actually tried loosening that nut before, but it wouldn't move. Now I gave it another more forceful try, and it did move and I was able to adjust it. Thanks.

But like jctevere, I think my headlights are a bit off because the space between the headlight and the hood is still a bit uneven. Oh well, it's not that big of a deal.

No, I didn't try to loosen the nut, I just tried to turn the round piece figuring the nut was fixed, but I guess that's not the case.
