Rear roller blind

Does anyone have a rear roller-blind? Does it work well? Any problems? I'm considering whether to get this or get extra window tinting.

MBTex 04-17-2008 10:32 AM

I have it. It comes with P2 in the US.

Works great. I put it up everytime I park in the sun and that, along with a front sun shade, keeps most of the sun out of the car.

Works well for keeping the sun off of the kiddo's too.

Yes, it's nice. If you have rear passengers regularly, it's an even added bonus cause when the sun at their backs it really helps tremendously.

Is it something people could live without? Probably. However, it is one of the cool features for this class of car (sorta unexpected by some people). I like it.

I love it. I wouldn't get the car without it, even though I never have passengers in the back.
I use it when people are tailgating me :)

Neat idea. Does it make them back off, or get closer to see it? :)

They usually back off, it's great.

i have it and love it...i only wish it would automatically retract when the car is put in reverse.

QQQ 04-17-2008 05:29 PM

It is smooth and no problem.

Got it and am a big fan.

soapy 04-17-2008 08:43 PM

My wife said whe will not have another car without one. She also uses it for the tailgaters and it seems ot send the message to back off.

Works well in the Cali sunshine. A nice little perk to the US P2 pkg.

I had one on the '03 C240. It stopped retracting properly soon after I got it and was repaired under warranty. Then it quit working in the up position soon after it was out of warranty. There is no way to manually retract the thing. The whole shade and motor is one part and it was over $700 to replace it. If it had quit working in the down position I probably would have ignored it. But I really did not like driving with it in the up position, especially at night.

I don't have one on the E350. Don't really miss it even though I live in Florida. I used to put it up whenever parked as well as a sunshade in the windshield. I don't really notice a difference without it in the new car. I still use a windshield shade in the front.

Your experience may vary.

sunshade

<<Does anyone have a rear roller-blind? Does it work well? Any problems? I'm considering whether to get this or get extra window tinting.>>

This is my 2nd MB with the rear sunshade. I use it whenever I park tail into the sun. Protects my leather seats a bit and keeps the heat down a little.

Just one more good reason to specify P2. And a whole lot more useful than the Pano roof.

aowhaus 04-17-2008 10:54 PM

I have it on mine and on my previous car and I really like it.
I have it up all the time and rarely have to retract it, even at night. It really cuts down on the glare from headlights from trucks and SUVs as the auto-tinting rear view mirror could only do so much.

Thank you all. I'll get it (if the car hasn't been built yet)! I never thought of the tailgating thing.... another good reason.

OK, here in Australia the roller blind costs about US$800, about the same as tinting. The factory tint is not bad already. If I get extra tinting, this will cover all the windows, but I find it too dark when reversing at night.

If I get the roller blind, the side windows still lets heat in, but I think it blocks out more heat from the back. I also like being able to put it up and down, and also having more buttons on the dash!

Maybe I can get the blind and only tint the side windows?

My roller blind stopped working... i can hear the click but the motor doesnt run. Could it be jammed? Any ideas or suggestions?

I wonder what else I have common with your wife. :D The problem I have that the shade is almost always up but if I'm driving at reasonable speed above the limit and someone comes too close, I slow down closer to the speed limit and lift the shade. :naughty:

I cannot afford the local speed tickets and the W221 appears to attract amazingly odd vehicles (the vehicle type pretty much reflecting the driver intelligence).

You have a warranty claim.

I got your rear shade brotha, I love it. I use it when I dont want people behind me who share to stop. And I also use it when I get a big truck behind me at night or goofs who drive with high beams on. Anyway I love it and very glad I got it.

I give up. What does this mean?

tategoi 01-26-2009 07:17 AM

Does it rattle when your music is playing a deep low bass?

RickP330 01-26-2009 08:58 AM

Hello,
This would seem like such a superfluous feature, but I've had loaners with it and I am real sorry that I don't have it. It's really a nice to have item.
