The wife curbed a 18” AMG wheel Ahggg!

Just like like the title says, it finally happened with almost a year of ownership. She said she was trying to parallel park it last week when the wheel rubbed the curb. It was funny because the car was filthy from all the bad weather last week, normally she is happy as a clam to have me wash her car. This morning we went to breakfast and I leave the car in the driveway to wash it and she says why don't we just go inside and take a nap, or this and that. I said I tired of looking at the car look so bad. Then she comes out and admits and shows me the quilt:wall::( Anyway, does anyone know how much a replacement 18" AMG wheel is going to cost? I don't think it can be just fixed because these wheels have that stupid clear coat stuff, but if they can I would be happy to hear a success story.

It depends on the damage, but they can be fixed and the clear coat redone. Here it costs about $200 for a rough job and it will look new.

For a spare, I'd look to pickup a takeoff from one of the wheel shops or dealers.

My uncle bought a C300 off the lot that had the standard wheels and looked at upgrading to the 18" AMG wheels, but they were near $1000 each I think he said.

You don't need a new wheel if all that was damaged was the lip, they can fill it in and polish it up, reclear coat it and you won't be able to tell where the damage was done. Now if you hit a pot hole and bend the rim, its best to scrap it and purchase a new one.

Don't know if this is available anywhere else, but my dealer gave me a wheel protection package. $1,000 and for 5 years I get all damages to wheels and tires covered.

Pot holes, dents, flat tires....all replaced free. The salesman told me curbing isn't included but just to say i hit a pot hole and the edge of the wheel hit the side of the pot hole and it's all good. There is a company down here who refinshes wheels for about $150 if it's pretty banged up, if it's only slight curb damage $100 included new clear and it will look good as new. Look into repairing it instead of replacing, much cheaper IMO.

Gotta love her though...why don't we go inside and take a nap? :D

That's what the salesman will say to get you to buy. But I bet you the service dept will argue the toss with you to get out of having to do the repairs if it looks like a curbing.
That's my experience with claiming anything on warranty/insurance whenever the cause of the problem could be debatable.

sound like it can be fix, depending where you live call 818 780-9822

nbturbos 05-26-2008 08:13 PM

That's fine...I'm not a person you'd like to try and screw out of something.

I don't scam my way into getting anything I don't deserve, but from passed experiences, I always get what I was told I'm getting. Redundant? A little...

narky 05-27-2008 01:41 AM

I can't offer any help, regrettably, but only my experience.

I got into a minor accident and had my wheel re-manufactured ("It'll look braaaaand new after the treatment! Don't worry!" they said...:X) twice, each time to my great disappointment. It looked worse each time it came back, and by then I was wishing I'd just left the minor nicks alone.

Maybe the wheel guys around my area are just completely incompetent fools. I hope so for your sake. I wish you good luck with yours.
