Has anyone hit 18k miles or above yet?

Just curious..? I'm piling up 600-700 miles per week just commuting... It's worth it though. I hit 360,000 miles on the '93 Civic SI hatchback before it finally started having issues. I actually sold that car in October '07 for what I paid for it back in 2002 (you know... when 10 gallons cost ~ $10?)! :nix:

That's a quite a bit of commuting! :) At that rate you will be logging about 36,000 miles a year. I am sure your Benz will hold up till 360,000 miles but maintenance and gasoline expenses will be a lot more compared to your Civic SI hatchback. :nix:

Happy motoring. :zoom:

I know!

Service A = $1,018.00.

Service B = A kidney..?

It's all good. It's also well worth it!

imboom 06-15-2008 06:10 AM

Your service A costs you 1k?

Wow, the dealership here charges 340.

atiqa 06-15-2008 11:34 AM

I've hit 18k. No major problems thus far.

Yes... Two new rear tires + service.

I have hit 20k.....no problemos

AMGTestDriverNJ 06-15-2008 11:10 PM

That makes a little more sense. What was wrong with your tires?

EmCeeSmith 06-15-2008 11:28 PM

That's good to hear! Has anyone replaced the Continentals with Pirelli's or another ultra high-performance tire with a higher treadwear rating?

The Continentals are fine and all, but I'm not loving them enough the keep replacing them at the current pace...

Suggestions?

I've used the following in the past on other vehicles:
- Yokohama AVS Intermedite
- Yokohama Parada (Original Spec)
- Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position
- Bridgestone Potenza RE030
- Dunlop SP Sport 9000
- General  (The old reliable Civic SI - These tires lasted forever! Obviously not an option... LOL)

The Yokohama Advan S4 looks like it might last a while... Although they aren't very aggressive looking, they might suit my needs..?

I've hit 19k. No major problems

Has anyone else had to replace the stock 17 Contis? I sure hoped they'd last more than 18,000.

jrct9454 06-17-2008 10:37 AM

Our Lux, with the NON-staggered wheel sizes, gets tire rotations every 3000 miles by me in the garage. At the 8300 mile point, I would estimate the standard Contis are going to last at least 40,000 miles, and probably longer. Anytime after 30k, I'd probably opt for new Primacy MXV4s [had these on our Prius just after Michelin put them on the market], but wear is not an issue.

The inability to rotate is just one of the reasons why I will not have staggered wheel sizes on any car I drive. Replacing low-profile tires at under 20k miles is just one of the prices you pay for this business of equipping the car with these wheel / tire combinations.

In the rest of the world, the C300 Lux [C280 Elegance everywhere else] comes with 205/55x16s all around, and I would have much preferred those for the same reasons - longer wear, smoother ride, less cost to replace.

Go to Tire Rack and use their "compare" feature - their feedback and testing scores will give you some clues about differences, and you can make some judgments based on what's most important to you.

22.5k... Almost time for a complete new set of tires... I'm going with the Yokohama S4 or the Pirelli P-Zero. I love this car!

cjh. 08-10-2008 02:34 AM

Get back to me in a few months...I've had the car two months and already have 6,200 miles.

Looking forward to the next few months, I've been problem free since day one.

Tatorr 08-10-2008 06:10 AM

Just hit 10k, no problem so far. Had it the car since Dec of 2007.

JimPap 08-10-2008 06:28 AM

EmCeeSmith,

What are you saying about your tires? Approximately, how many miles are you going to get out of them????

I've got just over 18,000 miles on mine and they still look pretty new. At this rate, they should last at least 36,000, maybe more. Half my driving is at interstate speeds (55-70) and I do check my inflation pressure about every other week. I keep the tires at factory recommendation of 28 and 33 using nitrogen. The stock staggered wheels are the Michilin Pilots.

S4 are a nice choice.

I've got the Advan.S4 on my wife's C240 Wagon. They seem great and should last longer than the Michelin Pilot A/S that barely made it 20,000 miles.

We're running the 17" staggered sport wheels on this car.

CarGuru 08-10-2008 04:40 PM

We've got 18K on our '08 Sport.

> Our mirrors squeak sometimes when retracting in the "fold-in" position.

> The Sunroof moans & groans when tilting up or down.

> Both left & right spats have popped off the rivets holding them in place along the rocker.

> Rear tires are about 40% fronts about 60% +/- I have 18" AMG W/ Conti's

> Our stereo preset feature just gave up the ghost, the car is at MB awaiting a new radio possibly, still waiting to see what they will say about that.

> The wind buffeting is still ever present since day one, coming from the right rear door area at or above 68-70 mph.

> Driver seat has a very subtle annoying rock to it when first getting in, I've got an '08 Rental C300 sport from MB and the seat in it doesn't rock. My car awaits a new radio and rear door card that was damaged by the dealer trying to fix the busted lock pins that happened last month.

Verdict: I'm impressed with Mercedes service and how they are dealing with my car, I'm not very impressed with the overall build quality of our car. It would suffice to say this is a car I would like to be free of before the warranty expires. Aside from that it's still a pleasant driver.
