I think that SL-style grill makes the grill opening look obscenely huge in the black version. On the chrome version it's just way too much chrome and also the mesh portion above the emblem where it becomes solid is really distracting (but that could be fixed with some flat black paint).
Also on both versions the horizontal bar doesn't quite line up with the hood line.

Decided to remove the sl grille and go conventional.
Wrapped the original sports grille with matt black vinyl and tinted the eyelids.
Also tinted the reverse light strip

If you search you will find pictures of 204.s fitted with the OE C63 grille, and it doesnt look good, the grill is made out of two parts and when the hood is closed a pretty large gap will show between the two parts.

I am thinking heavily into getting the SL grille for my car, I think that the reason some of these look so bad is because it uses the glass center star and makes it look big and obtrusive, I think this one will look much better, especially on a black car, uses OEM star:

Hello, just finished wrapping my grill with matt black vinyl...Thank you so much syrAMG for providing this DIY guide.
I had to remove and install my grill a couple of times since it took me a long time to properly wrap the entire grill, and I did not want to drive without a grill.
I just wanted to share a shortcut that I used in removing the grill.
Instead of removing the T shaped holding bolt, which obliges you to remove the Radiator mounting cover and the Air intakes, what I did was to just remove the clip from the T shaped holding bolt that connects it to the grill.
All I did was:
a) Pop open the hood
b) take a long nose and pull out the middle portion of the 2 clips
c) Remove the clip
d) push the bottom part of the grill inwards, while slightly lifting the entire grill assemble
e) Grill should slide out

Thanks! I just noticed that you could upload PDF's on to this forum!
I found a copy on my USB MC
if you have any questions please feel free to post a comment or drop a PM

NOTE: although I have removed the circular notch, I believe you can just leave
the notch "Unlocked" and remove the Mounting Cover.

its a 1minute job,
stand in front of the car and place your hands on the lower part of the grill, then push hard inwards and pull the grill upwards, you may also have to loosen the two tabs on the upper "t bar".
When fitting make sure the two larger "hinge" side tabs are seated in the slots and insert the grill leaning inwards, then align the bottom tabs and pull the grill towards you, and make sure the t bar is plugged in correctly.

Been reading this whole thread but trying to figure out how to replace the bumper grille. There doesn't seem to be able to get up under the bumper. Does this pop out inwardly? Does the new one go in from the front as well? The one I bought is from parts geek and looks OEM but no instructions.
