I Highly Reccomend the Chrome Door Handle Inserts on a white c-class

WOW!

Added them today after picking up a set of OEM chrome inserts at fletcher jones for $70 bucks

A beeatch to install, but dang they look sweet...

really give the car a nice accent...

when i had one side on and the other wasnt done yet, i compared the two sides(chromed and unchromed) and i cant believe how boring and plain the non chrome side looked compared to the other side...

will post pics soon once i get my quad exaust and diffuser installed

lets c those pics.. Maybe paint them black? that mite go good if your going for the white and black theme.. :nix: maybe its just me..

I commented on the R class thread about the handle inserts, but maybe you can fill me in. I had them all ready to be thrown in to my deal, but after looking at some installed on a GL in the showroom from the factory I came to the conclusion that they didn't fit tight enough to the body and would allow for water to get behind them when you wash your car. Then after you dry your car you would get the dreaded water seepers from all four handles. So I decided against getting them and went with some other items instead. Wash your car and let us know how it goes, probably wouldn't make much of a difference on a light colored car, but on dark colors it could be a killer.

im telling you, i have white (light color) , and it looks amazing...

in my opinion it is 5x the mod of the clear corners, no joke...

sorry no pics yet...

gf has my camera at her house still...

phone has no camera, they wont allow camera phones at work

Had them on my black C300 before I decided to go dark. They looked OK. Not the best pic but the only one I have with them on. They are sitting on my workbench in the garage.

:eek:Sorry..but NOT digging those chrome inserts....definately not on black -- and I haven't seen them on white but I am not a big fan of chrome on a car ... :nix:

chilledbenz 08-24-2008 11:15 PM

They do look quite awful on a C class...stupid Benz hasn't opted for the center chromed insert door handles on the C class yet...next year probably? The cars with the center chromed handles like the R class look good with these cup inserts, but yet no one seems to know anything about water getting behind them.

washed car today...

dried it and removed all visible water ... drove to store... drove back home...

no drips were evident coming from the door handles..
.

not sure what ur worried about

michaeljdunn 08-25-2008 12:35 AM

paint them black...:y

FrankW 08-25-2008 02:33 AM

I have a white one too and I'll never slap those schaltz chrome handle cover on my car. IMO they look like **** on any car there's no difference in what color you have, but then again it's just IMO.

These are actually a factory option on the GL..and from the factory they didn't fit very tight. I could push on them and the corners would pop out making a nice gap for water to get into and then drip out once the car was dried. Also been reading posts where the factory tape goes bad after a year or so, I would assume from water getting in behind the insert and wearing away the tape glue. Not a big deal, just put more tape on, but I just hate when I spend all day washing a black car, I don't want to spend all night trying to dry it. :smash:

mine are OEM, see part number already mentioned, not SCHATZ...

and you obviously have not seen them and compared to a non chrome door insert car....

OEM not SchatZ

LOL...doesn't matter if they're oem or schatz. my opion stands. just because one makes it doesn't make it good looking. my opinion's the same for the chrome headlight trim, chrome mirrors, chrome rims, anything that's added to the car that's chrome...

won't go into this any further. it's your car your decision.

Does anyone know how to take these off? I have them on my 2011 C63 (black) and I don't really like the look, but the car came with them already on.

BUMP to your question. how do you remove?

Ron Jr 01-02-2012 03:23 PM

Just like the model# chrome heat and dental floss. It is just held on with 3M tape.

acr2001 01-02-2012 03:37 PM

Until you post pics, I'm keeping my view that these look nasty! Maybe they'll look particularly awesome on white, need pics!

Chrome door insert removal and smoke side markers on c300

3 Attachment(s)
I have a 2011 C300 that came with the chrome door inserts.
The Mercedes data sheet from the dealer showed this as a $300 option.
Not sure why anyone would pay to have this because it looks tacky on a black car.

See the before and after shots.
BEfore shots with the chrome door handle inserts
After shots with the inserts removed and also the chrome strip at the door removed.
Also see that I changed out the orange stock side markers for the smoke color in case someone is wondering how it looks on a black.

What do you guys think? Was I wrong to remove the chrome?

Since your car is black, you did a fantastic job removing them chrome accessories.

These chrome accents are only acceptable on white or iridium silver.

I agree 100%. I have a black C300 and I wanted something for protection against nail scratching. ClearBra FTW :y
