Navigation Update DVD worth it?

Mercedes-Benz has just issued a new DVD for the North America navigation system in the 2008 Class-C cars.

Part Number is Q646 0238 and I'd like to hear from people who have installed it to determine if it's worth the cost to upgrade after just one year.

Can I find a "used" DVD somewhere?

Thanks.

Pierre

it might be worth it if it can change the display colors from the standard brown

angeloxnet 09-07-2008 08:26 PM

is there a way i can check what version i have?

joshg1001 09-08-2008 01:02 AM

interesting...

thought it was an HDD navigation where (on lexus cars) no longer relies on an update from a disc...

Is this cheaper than the dealership?

Also heard that you can get them from Nagteq

http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/INT...llProducts=YES

If you are not driving around in new subdivisions, or your work doesn't require extensive driving, maybe wait for a year or two.

my dealership told me
when you guys bring the car in for service, they will plug a computer in and update it, there is not DVD disx

Plus i think Maps update is not free even if done through dealer.

Released March 2008. I'll wait for March 2009.

Navteq says it was released in March 2008. Since we're in September, maybe I should wait a few months for the March 2009 release.

I think I got the Nav update from the Dealer for free !

Is there any difference that stands out in the new Navigation update?

MB Service did a complete download to my Multi Media to fix an echoing problem that I had with my phone and shop foreman told me the download updated the Nav too. So far I noticed some minor differences with icons and I think there is new feature called "Audio Fadeout". My car is 2008.

Not sure never tried that. What is the purpose of entering that sequence?

You can access to hidden eng menu, enable backup camera, video Aux and check sw version etc, try it.

Do you get audio fade menu after update? I just want to know if nav dvd update the command operating system. Looking for LOADING.KWI and ALLDATA.KWI files from update CD. Patching above files may enable VIM via sw update.

i got audio fadeout when the nav speaks after the update
also additional "symbols/icons"

The Audio Fade is definitely a new upgrade that comes along with the MB service update download. I didn't have the feature before, now the system momentarily lowers the music while giving directions. Previously I could hardly hear the navigation when I had the music at a higher level. Also, now when you go to setup the nav Personal Symbols the icons are now more defined and in color.

I just wish they added more "real" symbols like in the Lexus Nav (IS)
where it had the actual logos of restaurants and stores

I'm not totally sure, I'll have to check when I get back from my vacation. :)
